DANIEL WRIGHT ATKINS, or MaRIoN, INDIANA.
HEATER.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that-LDANIEL W. ATK NS, a citizen of, theaUnited States, and aresident of Marion, inv the county of Grant and State of Indiana, have invented an Improvement I in Heaters, of which the following is a speci- This invention relates to heating apparatus, and more particularly to a gas heater, the construction ofwhich renders it adaptable for use as a stove ora hot air furnace.
The primary object of'the invention-is the provision of a gas heater which is simple, in
- .construction, effective in producing a maximumof heat, and one which may be manufactured at a minimum cost.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown in the accom- 'panying drawing, in which Figure 1- 's aside elevation of the heate constructed in accordance with the invention.v Fig. 2 is a' vertical sectional view, and
Fig. 3 is a'section on the line 33 of Fig.1;
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, in which like reference characters indicate similar parts, the numeral 5 indicates the base of the heater into which projects. the gas pipe 6 leading to the burners 7 for supplying gas thereto for the purpose of generating heat. The base 5 is provided in the top thereof with an'enlarged opening 8 through which the heat from the burners. 7 passes. Surrounding the opening 8 are a plurality of supporting lugs 9 upon which is mounted a deflector plate or spreader 10 preferably of circular formation and arranged dire'ctly over said opening. Supported by and spaced from the deflector plate 10 by means of a plurality of lugs 11 is the inner casing 12 having the closed lower end 13 and open at its upper end, said casing having on its exterior surfacean asbestos covering 14.
An outer casing 15 is mounted upon the top of the base 5 and arranged concentrically with the inner casing 12 so as to form a Specification of Letters Patent.
spaced therefrom, an inner lnner casing being Patented Aug. 31, 1915.
Application filed April 13, 1915. Serial No. 21,095.
Inpractice, the'heat emanated from the burners 7 rises and strikes the plate 10 and is then deflected to the edge thereof and passes into the annular space 16 between the inner and outer casings.
The outer casing 15 will ;be effectively heated by reason of the fact that the inner casing is covered with asbestos, venting any absorption of the inner casing. The top 17 of the is also effectively heated, and from thence the heat passes downwardly into the inner casing 12 'into the flue 19 and upwardly through tl heater.
I claim A heater comprising a base, a burner mounted in said base, an outer casing mp 20 for the admiswhereby proper heat by the outer casing ported on said base and having an opening in the top thereof, a flue said top in alinement with deflector plate carried by depending from said opening, a. said base and easing having a closed lower end and an open upper end, said open end extending to within a slight distance of the top of the 'outer casing, said supported by said deflector plate and spaced therefrom and arranged concentrically with said outer casingto provide an annular space therebetween whereby the heatfrom said burner will have an unobstructed passage upwardly in said space and downwardly into said inner casing, and an asbestos covering for said inner casing.
