Intermediate the pull-of and take-up bars 70 and 73, respectively, is disposed the thread-clamp or nippel', herein represented as adapted for engaging independently a plurality of lower threads. The thread nipping device is shown herein comprising a pair of su} )porting arms 77 each secured by means of a fastening screw 78 upon the bottom of the thread-cavity 79 formed in the top of the bed-'plate and extending along the *forward edge of the same, each of such supnorting arms carrving, at its outer end a block 80 forming the upper member or jaw of a threai'l-clamp. This is dueto the prompt release of the upper and lower thread loops by the looper and. their immediate drawing up toV the under face of the material, whereby the needle is enabled to descend without the close wrapping around it of previously formed and enchaige'd thread-loops, as in ldouble.chain-stitch machines heretofore constructed, necessitating a material rise of .the needle to partially strip such' enwrapped thread-loops bycontact with the under face of the fabric to permit the throwing out of the new loop of upper-thread confined to the blade of the needle by such previously formed and enchained threadloops.
