Description

A. KNOCHE.
` Improvement in Meat-Safes; No. 115,067, Patentedlvlayzsnan.
Wa'luefsef.-
HHHHEIHIZMHHEE UNITED STATES AUGUST KNOOHE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEAT-SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,067, dated May 23, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUsr KNocHE, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, haveinvented anew and Improved Meat-Safe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing formin g part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved meat-safe taken on the plane of the line rc, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same taken on the plane of the line y y, Fig.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
This invention has for its object to provide a ventilatin g meat-safe, in which provisions of every kind may in warm Weather be kept for a longer period than if not exposed to such ventilation. The invention consists in providing the safe with perforated vertical partitions at the sides through which air can freely enter and pass, and with a top fine through which the air can escape.
A in the drawing represents the outer box or case of meat-safe. It is made of wood, metal, or other material, of suitable size and shape, preferably four-sided, as shown. Within the safe are arranged two or more horizontal partitions, a b, which divide it into two or more chambers, c d, the upper partition, I), forming also an air-passage, e, above the upper chamber, d. One side, f, of the lower chamber, c,
is perforated for the admission of air, and may be protected by wiregauze or otherwise, to prevent flies or other insects from entering the chamber throughsaid apertures. Opposite to the side f is set up Within the safe a perforat ed vertical partition, g, which forms an airpassage, h, on one side of the chamber c. A similar perforated partition, t', is set up above the partition a on the side of the chamber d, continuing thereby the air-passage h. A perforated vertical partition, j, is set up opposite to t' in d, as shown in Fig. l, forming thereby another air-chamber, k, above a. Said airchamber k communicates with the horizontal air-passage e. B is a lue, extending upward into a chimney or atmosphere. Circulation is thus effected through the entire safe in the direction of the arrows shown in Fig. l-that is to say, through the side f, partitions g, t', and j, and oft' through the flue. Doors l l may be provided for the whole safe, or separately for each chamber, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The case A, the meat-chambcrscd, one above the other, and perforated on two sides, combined with the air-chambers h k e and liuc B, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified. AUGUST KNOOHE.
