SUPPLEMENTAL DISPLAY-CASE.
\ Specification of Letters Patent.
Ap ucat'ion finarovember 13, 1914. Serial No. 871,958.
- To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, PmLrP A. BECKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Supplemental Display-Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact Specification.
This invention relates more particularly 'to a class of display cases adapted to be used in conjunction with boxes.
My invention has for its object primarily to provide a: supplemental display case de signed to be detachably applied to a box whereby goods, such as cigars and other tobacco products, may be advantageously d1splayed for sale on a counter, show case, and, thelike without subjecting the goods to be ing damaged by air and dust as well as preventing the goods from being handled or tampered with, and which consists essentially of a transparent body preferably of substantially a triangular shape havingan open bottom and an open back. This transparent triangular body is positioned on the open top of the body of a box provided with a lid hinged thereto so that its front plate will be disposed upwardly onan incline toward the lid of the box, and this front plate may be hinged to the body of the case to permit it to be swung to open or closed positions thereon, or the front plate may be fixed to the body. p
Another object of the invention is to provide one or more catches to permit the transparent body to be removably fastened against accidental displacement to either the body ofthe box or to its lid; and a further object of the invention is to provide on the top of the front plate of the body of the case a transverse plate adapted to serve for displaying a sign and also as a handle by which the hinged front plate may be swung.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying specification in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and will then be pointed out in the claims at the end of the description. v
In the-drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a boxwith one form of supplemental display case embodying my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional edge of a front plate 24' drawings which form a part of this view taken through one of the upper corner portions of the case 'shown in Fig. 1, the
front plate beingclosed on the body of the,
case. F ig. 3 is a perspectivelview showing a modified form ofv the case'applied to a box. Fi' 1 is a perspective view showing still a Patented Aug. 17, 1915.

Fig. 5 is a vertical sectionv taken through the case and the box shown in Fig. 4, andFig.

and the box shown in Fig. 4: when the case is swung open from the bodylof the box.
e supplemental display case has a trans-- Th parent body 10 composed of two approxi% mately triangular endwalls, or platesll and '12 which may be .of glass or othertransparent material, and these end plates are inclosed in frames, as 13 and 14:, made preferably of wire of substantially the same width as the thickness of theglass, the end plates being held in their frames by a number of clips, as 15. The lower front corners of the triangular frames 13'and ltare connected by a transverse wire rod 16, and the lower rear corners of these frames are connected by a transverse wire'rod 17 While the upper corners of the frames are connected by a cross-bar 18. Thecross-bar so as to overhang the rear edges of the end plates or walls of the body ofthe case, and the free lengthwise edge ofithis bar is slightly curved downwardly'to' provide a groove 19 thereunder. Pivoted by one or more hinges, as 20 and 21, to the crossbar 18' is asecond transverse bar 22 which may be substantially U-shaped as viewed transversely whereby a groove .23 is formed therein, and in this groove is disposed the upper of glass or other 18 is of a width transparent material. The sideand front I edges of the transparent plate 24: are inclosed in a wireframe 25 connected thereto by clips similar, to the clips 15, and this plate together with its frame are of dimensions so as to close inentirety the front opening between the triangular end plates of the display case when closed thereupon. The
. transparent body of the case ismade so that the lower edge of its hlnged front plate and the lower edges of its end walls are on the same relative plane, and this body is made of a size corresponding tothe width and length of the box, as 26, soas to rest upon tin, upper edges of the walls of the box, as shown, and the body ofjthe'fcase is of a height equivalent to approximately the transparent t 'iangular body is, positioned:

IVhen'it is. desired to dispense goods from this box the upon the open top of the box. Thus by the use ofthese forms of supplementaldisplay cases goods in boxes may be advantageously' displayed for sale on counters, show cases, and the like without subjecting the goods to being damaged by air and dust as well as preventing the goods from being handled or tampered with.
111 the foregoing description, I have embodied'the preferred form of my invention, but I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, therefore I reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1* l.
