Description

F. A. MIDDLESTATE.
CONVEYING AND SEPARATING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 11. 1913- Patented Aug. 17, 1915.
INVENTOH A54 Mad/651m? TTOHW WITNESSES:
FRANK A. MIDDLESTATE, F EDISON, WASHINGTON.
CONVEYING AND SEPARATING APPARATTTS.
Application filed October 11, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. MIDDLE STATE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Edison, in the county of Skagit and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Conveying and Separating Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to farming appliances, and its object is to produce a new and useful combination of devices whereby straw, or the like, may be rapidly transferred from a threshing machine to a baling press and at little expense.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view shown partly in side elevation and partly in section of apparatus embodying my improvements shown applied. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken through 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through 33 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, the reference numeral 5 designates a threshing machine having a power driven exhaust blower 6 which discharges the threshed straw, accompanied by air, through a conveyer pipe 7. The delivery end of the pipe 7 is socketed in the conical shaped mouth of a branch pipe 8 which extends tangentially from the cylindrical upper portion 9 of an air separator 10. Extending downwardly from the part 9 the separator is formed with a funnelshaped portion 11 which terminates in a spout 12.
The air separator is provided at the top with a cover-plate 13 having a central opening through which communication is had with the interior of the separator by an air discharge pipe 14 which extends downwardly from said cover-plate.
The straw and air from the conveyer pipe 7 is given a whirling motion on entering the separator, the heavier portion (or straw) taking a centrifugal and downward course to be finally dropped from the spout 12, while the air and dust will exhaust upwardly through discharge pipe 14.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 17, 1915.
Serial No. 794334.
15 represents a conveyer upon which is deposited straw from the spout of the aforesaid separator and serves to transfer the same into the receiving compartment 16 of a hay-press which is indicated by 17.
As illustrated, the conveyer frame is comprised of a trough-like body having a floor 18 and sides 19. The conveyer proper, consisting of transverse strips 20 secured to endless belts 21, passes over the floor 18 and about the idler and driving pulleys 22 and 23 having their shafts 22 and 23 journaled in boxes secured to the opposite ends of the conveyer frame.
As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, the shaft 23 has mounted thereon a pulley 24 which is driven by a belt 25 from a pulley 26 provided on a shaft 27. The latter is driven by means of bevel gears 28 from a shaft 29 which, in turn, is driven by a toothed gear 30 from the power-driven gear 31 which carries the crank pin 32 by which the pitman 33 of the press plunger is actuated.
34 represents hook devices secured to the delivery end of the conveyer frame which are engageable with pins 35 supported by posts 36 secured to and extending a distance above the body of the hay-press.
37 represents wheels whereby the conveyer may be conveniently moved.
The air separator is supported in superposed relations to said conveyer frame by means of standards 38 rigidly secured to the frame and having secured to their upper ends a circular rail or track 40 for rollers 41 provided on the separator. By thus employing a circular track to support the separator-carrying wheels, the separator may be rotatably adjusted to properly present the inlet pipe 8 to receive the thresher delivery pipe 7.
In operation, the air blast enerated at blower 6 serves as a vehicle or carrying the straw into the separator and there causes the air and straw to whirl within the separator, with the result that the straw will be liberated from the air which escapes through the pipe 14. The straw is then deposited upon the conveyer 15 undisturbed by any blast and is thereupon carried by the conveyer to the press.
Having described my invention, What I claim, is
A device of the class described, comprising in combination with a relatively fixed conveying pipe, a frame movable relative thereto, a pneumatic separator provided with an inlet tube and with outlet tubes for the air and separated material, and means for rota- FRANK A. MIDDLESTATE.
