GAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1915.
Application filed November 6, 1913. Serial No. 799,608.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES SANDoz MoRrrz, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, and residing at Tavannes, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gages, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to improvements in gages, and relates more specifically to a new construction of male gage for measuring internal diameters of work pieces, and the object of the invention is to provide a gaging means whose operative surface is so adjustable that upon a certain gaging diameter or zone having become worn down or damaged, a new gaging zone can readily be presented by a simple turn given the gaging member proper.
The new gage essentially consists of a holder and a spherically shaped gaging member adjustably secured thereto.
In order to make this invention more readily understood, I will now describe it with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows a side elevation of a preferred form of my new gage, with the holder partly in section.
The holder or handle a is tube-shaped and provided at its ends with inwardly chamfered edges a, presenting thereby annular seats for the spherically shaped gaging Copies of this patent may be obtained for members I), c, which, when seated in the beveled holder ends, are suitably retained therein with capability of rotary displacement. As shown, I can use, for instance, for this purpose a wire or rope connection 6 between the two balls, which latter are provided with a circumferential channel or groove d in which are engaged the loop ends of the wire connection 6.
If the gaging surfaces or zones of the balls are worn down or are damaged or have otherwise become unfit for accurate measurements, a slight rotary displacement of the respective balls suflices to shift a new gaging zone into operative position.
WVhat I claim is A gage, comprising in combination, a tubular holder presenting annular seats at its extremities, spherical gaging members having a circumferential groove and rotatably fitting said annular seats, and a twisted wire member contained within said tubular holder and presenting loops at its extremities engaging with said circumferential groove of said gaging members.
In testimony whereof I alfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES SANDOZ MORITZ.
