GEORGE DYNE S, OF VERSCHOYLE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
wn'rna rnooeni Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1915.
Application filed June 1, 1914. Serial No. 842,295.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE DYNES, of the village of Verschoyle, in the county of Q2:- ford, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVater-Troughs; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to a portable concrete water trough comprising a base member and a water bowl reinforced, to prevent their separation from each other, and,to avoid breakage under reasonable conditions of use.
For an understanding of my invention reference is to be had to the following de scription and to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1, is a perspective view of the water trough; Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the reinforcing members for the base and water bowl; Fig. 3, is a cross section on the line aa Fig. 1; and, Fig. l, is a longitudinal section on the line 6-6, Fig. 1.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawin s.
In the construction of the water trough the concrete base 6 is inclosed by a metal frame a, this frame being preferably of the same shape and depth as the base. Connected to the sides of the frame a are upright binders a, c, and passing through two opposite sides of the frame a and through the binders c are reinforcing rods (Z, and passing through the other two op posite sides of the frame a and through lthe e binders c, 0 are connected together above the base by horizontal bars 6, and inclosed by the frame formed by the binders c, c and horizontal bars 6 is a substantially box-shaped metal reinforcing plate 7.
When the parts above described are assembled, a mixture of concrete is poured into the frame a to form the base I); and when the base Z) is made, a form is set on top of it to mold the bottom 9 of the trough h. When the bottom 9 is molded and properly leveled,
horizontal bars 6.
In this way I am able to construct a portable Water trough, and use the metal frame a to protect the vertical sides of the base 5 from breakage or injuries, provided reasonable care is used in the handling of the trough. The reinforcing rods d, cl bind the sides of the base together and strengthen it to resist the torsional strains which it may be subjected to while being handled, or when set on an improperly leveled or constructed bed. The vertical members 0, c are connected to the base to prevent the walls 2' breaking away from the base either under atmospheric influence or through any failure to use reasonable care in the handling of the trough.
Should the walls 11 crack as a result of carelessness in the mixing of the cement, or in the making of the Water trough, or in the handling or use of it, the metal reinforcing plate f will check the leakage and prevent the contents of the trough flowing away.
Embedded in and supporting the sides z is a U-shaped rod j which holds the top of the walls 2' from spreading outward.
Having thus fully described the nature of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: 1. A water trough comprising a concrete base, a metal wall surrounding the vertical sides of the base, a concrete trough set on the base, a metal reinforcement embedded in the trough and means connecting the metal reinforcement with the metal wall surrounding the base.
2. A water trough comprising a concrete base, a metal wall surrounding the vertical sides of the base, a concrete trough set on, the base, a metal reinforcementembedded in the trough and means connecting the metal reinforcement with the metal Wall surrounding the base, said means comprising binders connected to the metal wall and to the reinforcement.
3. A Water trough comprising a concrete to the reinforcement, and horizontal bars base, a metal Wall surrounding the vertical coupling the binders. sides of the base, a corficrete troughbsezdon Toronto, May 20th, 1914. t e base, a metal rein orcement em e ed in the trough and means connecting the GEORGE DYNES' metal reinforcement With the metal Wall Witnesses: surrounding the base, said means compris- MONTIGNY KENNEDY, ing binders connected to the metal Wall and Guns. H. RIoHns.
