BODKIN.
. Specification of Letters Patent.

Fig. l on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 3 shows a section along line 3 3 of Fig. lk
` on an enlarged scale.
Like parts are indicated by the same num- I ber throughout the several gures.
1 is a piece -of lingerie or other article which is slotted or apertured at 2, 2 for the passage of the ribbon.
3 is the ribbon or tape which` is to be drawn through. l
The bodkin is made up of two forwardly converging or inclined wire members 4, 5
joined at one` end by a crosspiece 6. Theconnection between the crosspiece 6 and the wire 4 is substantially a right angle, the
connection between the crosspiece 6 and the wire 5 being curved to provide a spr1ng` effect. The forward end of the piece 5 is provided with a pin point as at 7 and engages a'socket 8, which socket is formedin the end, of one arm of a V-shaped part 9` which is carried by the forward end of the wire 4.
It will be evident that, while I have shown in my drawing an operating device, still manychanges might be made in size, shape and arrangement of parts without departi Copies of this patent may beobtained forv vc cents each, "ny addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
ing materially from the spirit of my invention. I wish, therefore, that my drawing be regarded as in a sense diagrammatic.
The use yand operation of my invention are asfollows: Preparatory to using the device the pointed pin is sprung out of the `socket and assumes the position shown in dotted lines. This pointed. end is then threaded or run Ythrough the end of the ribbon as indicated in Fig. 1. The pin is then sprung back into the socket which projects within the pointed end. The V-shaped end of the bodkin is then inserted into the slots in the fabric and fed through in the usual manner. The crosspiece carrying the forf ward end of the tape thus feeds it smoothly through the fabric without twisting or warpingof the tapeV or ribbon.
f I claim: I
, A bodkin made up of a single lpiece of wire formed in a loop, having two forwardly` converging Vside members, a cross membery tying together the widely separated ends of the side members and arranged substantially at'right angles to the center line of the loop, a V-shaped forward extension eX- tending from the two forward ends of the side pieces forwardly to form a blunt point, a sockety contained in the 4wire immediately behind one side of such V-shaped piece, the side V member of that side terminating in a point under tension to ,engage and be held inl position in'said socket. Intestimony whereofI aiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses this 3rd day of June, 1914:.
