Description
OFFICE.
JAMES WILSON, OF DAVIS7 MILLS, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MILLSTNE'DRESSES. A
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 114,896, dated May 16, 1871.
To all to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES WILSON, of Davis Mills, in the county of Bedford and State of Virginia, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Millstone- Dresses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the same, and in which- Figure l represents a plan or top view of my millstone-dress, and Fig. 2 a central section thereof taken in a vertical plane.
Similar letters of reference in the\t\vo iigures refer to corresponding parts.
This invention has reference to an improved millstone-dress; `and it consists of the peculiar construction and arrangement of the furrows thereof, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it:
A in the annexed drawing refers to a millstone of the usual form, and which can be hung or mounted in place, when in use, by the means ordinarily adopted for that purpose. In furnishing this stone with the dress for performing the operation of cutting or grinding the grain, for which purpose it is designed, I first inscribe upon its upper surface or face two circles with suitable means, the smaller one of which encircling a point in the center of the said stone, and the larger one drawn thereon at a point equidistant between the said smaller circle and the periphery of the said stone. Next I provide the space between the said circles with a series of tangential furrows, designated by the letters B and O O, the former having a rectangular shape, and bottoms inclining from their inner eX- tremities downward to their outer ones, and between which the latter are placed, as shown in Fig. l. The said latter furrows O O C are constructed of a wedge-shape, and vary in length, as seen in Fig. 1, the longer one of which comes in contact with each of the circles above alluded to, while the inner extremities of the other said furrows vary in their dis, tances from the ksmaller circle aforesaid described. D D referto a series of rectangular furrows or channels occupying the space between the larger circle inscribed upon the stone A and the periphery of the said stone,
as plainly shown in Fig. l.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y The arrangement of the tangential deep furrows B G O and outer furrows D D, when constructed substantially as herein shown, and for the purpose described.
' JAMES WILSON.
