IVIOLDBOABID ANDLANDSIDE PLOW'AND 'GAGE-WHEEL Specification of LettersPatent.
Application inea June 17,1914. serial No. 845,625- l To all 'whom t may/concern.' o f Be it known that I, AUGUSTHAFERKAMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at IVallis, in the county of Austin. and State of Texas, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements ina Moldboard and Landside Plow and -Gage-Wheel; and I do hereby declare the following` to be .a full,y
vide a sliding fulcrum arrangement to op-v erate the depth of the standard.
Still another object is to provide an ary rangement whereby the reach of the operating means can be adjustably connected.
Other objects and advantages of this inventionwill be hereinafter more clearly set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claims. f
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the specification and drawing` in which the figure is a perspective elevation of my attachment as applied to a middle bursting plow. e
In the drawing, 1 is my plow beam of ordinary construction, 2 my plow attached to the beam, said plow being likewise of ordinary construction, 3 a handle to my plow also of the ordinary construction, said handle being braced to said plow beam lby means of the usual braces such as 4.
Attached to the forward end of my plow beam is my clevis construction 5 composed of two oppositely disposed side plates 15, said plates matching each other in structure and being clamped on the opposite sides of the plow beam l by means of bolts 16 or other suitable forms of fastening devices.
Running through a suitable aperture formed in the side plates 15, is a `standard 17, said standard having free verticall play in said clevis. The top end of my standard 17 is pivotally connected to a lever member 18, said lever member being of a substantially hook formation having a substantially arcuate slot 19 within the hook portion. A
bolt 2O runsk through suitableaperturesin'4 the top portions of my clevis 5 and. passes,- throughy said slot19 to form the1movablev Swivelly connectedto thelower endof my leverage pivotA for saidmember 18. ,i
standard 17 by means'of `the usualswivel mountingy21 is a gage wheel ,22, saidA mount-` ing 21 having apair of oppositely matched members ,with apertures near the ends there-y o-f, through which runsy myfaXle 23, saidfaxlea having bushingy bearings 24 placedvon each side of my gage wheel `andbetweenthe'arms of the mounting 21. If desiredIattacha-r mudv scraper 25 to my gage wheel 22 by means of a thumb. screw 26, saidl thumb screw working in a slot 27 to allow` of suit.-k
Said;
able adjustment of Said scraper. standard 1s operated intoyvertical movement through the clevis 5 by means of said memberA 18, a friction. pulley 28/being attached.'`
to the lower rear edge of my clevis and operating against the standard to reduce friction. My leverage member 18 is operated to adjust said standard 17 by means of a link 29 and a reach rod 30, said reach rod being connected to a lever arm 3l, which `has the usual sliding locking members 32 working within the teeth of a quadrant 33 mounte upon the plow beam 1, to which the lever 3l is pivotally connected at the focal point of said teeth. Thus manipulating my lever 31,1 operate my leverage member 18 through the medium of the reach rod 30, my Standard 17 adjusting according to the height with which I desire my plow to operate.
My reach rod which as before stated, is connected to the lever 31, is composed of a bar having a right angular bent end 34, said end having an aperture running therethrough, through which a connecting link 35 is passed, said link having a bent end 36 that is adjustably positioned in suitable apertures in my reach rod 30 so that said reach rod can be lengthened according to the Patented Aug. 3,1915. p
comprising av plow beam, a two partiV clevis carrying a transverse fulcrum bolt mounted upon said beam, a standard carrying a gage wheel vertically operating vin. said clevis, a
substantially arcuate shaped operating leverY having an arcuatencentrally disposed slot in the oute're'nd thereof pivoted to the upper end of said standard, said fulcrum kbolt of said clevis operating through said slot, a
link member'pivote'd to the inner end of said operating lever,-l
threadedv into saidilinkvmember having the k.v inner end thereof at right angles to thebody the upper end cbpies of this patent may be yobtained for portionsof 'said Vlink member, a reach rod having the end,v portion thereof bent at right angles and Vmounted -uponV said connection,
ta' y'connecting member lever slidingly playing upon said fulcrum member, Vactuating means, adjustable connectin g means between said actuating means and Said lever, anda standard having an angular baseVv portion carrying a gage wheel,
said-standard adjustably mounted between the parts of saidclevis and pivoted to said lever to be vertically adjusted upon the actuation of said lever.y
3. A device of the character described comprising; a standard' carrying Va gage wheel, an actuating lever pivoted to said standard, and, a plowV beam carrying a clevis, said clevis adjustably mounting said standard vand supporting said actuating lever, means to actuate said lever mounted upon said beam'to adjust the'position of said standard and threaded angular bent means positioned in said actuation means, adapted to adjust the reach rod thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
