Description

W. 1. LEE.
SCRAPER FOR COLTERS.
APPLICATION FILED 050.23.1914.

SGRAPER FOR GOLTERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 23, 1914. Serial No. 878,788.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that T, VVALDO J. LEE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Munson, in the Province of Alberta, and the Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scrapers for Colters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an adjustable scraper for rolling colters. These colters traveling through sod or previously cropped lands collect not only damp earth, but more or less remains of vegetation, such as sod roots, straw, or fibers of plants such as flax, and such accumulation interferes with the clean cutting operation of the disk.
The object of this invention is a scraper adapted to be quickly applied to colters of various sizes and types of frame, and which may be adjusted to suit such varying sizes and types, and. which will automatically keep the cutting edges of the colter clean.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter pointed out, set forth in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 isia plan view. Fig. 3 is a front sectional view. Fig. 4 is an inverted plan view of a clamping plate. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a slotted wedge.
In these drawings-1 represents a rolling colter journaled between the forks of a bifurcated frame 2, in the usual manner.
Extending transversely across this frame" are upper and lower bars 3, bolted together and suitably slotted to allow for varying widths of forks. 1
To enable these bars to rest firmly upon forks which may be more or less irregular in surface, or rounded I employ, where necessary slotted wedges 4 which are placed between the bars and the fork, and through which the securing bolts 3 pass. Clamped on the top of the fork and under the upper bar 3 is a plate '5 the forward portion of which is cut out midway its ends as shown at 6 to receive the colter, and upon either side of this cut out portion the late is transversely slotted as shown at The body of the plate is'flanged or vrecessed out Patented July 2?, T915.
on its under face as shown in Figs. 4:. and 5,
versely on the plate 5, and on opposite sides of and in engagement with the colter. These plates are slotted as shown at 9 and bolts 10 working through the slots 7 and 9 hold the plates 5 and 8 together. As the slots 7 and 9 are at right angles to each other, adjustment of the scrapers in two directions, 1on gitudinally and transversely, is provided.
The uses and advantages of a device of this kind will be obvious:
To prevent loss of the wedges chains 4 may be connected to them as shown-in Fig. (3, and the chains carry rings 4" through which the bolts 3 are adapted to pass.
What I claim is:-
1. The combination with afork and a colter journaled therein, of a centrally cut out and transversely slotted plate held on said fork, and transversely slotted scraper plates adjustably mounted on the first mentioned plate and overlapping the cut out portion, the scraper plates being adapted to "engage the sides of the colter.
2. The combination with-a rolling colter and its forked frame, of bars arranged transversely on the frame and longitudinally slotted, bolts connecting said bars, a longitudinally slotted and centrally cut out plate held between one of said bars and the frame, scraper plates arranged on and at and scrapers carried by said plate.
