A GURPQRATION 015 CEllSl' nitrrrnnnzilve sm ameo mn' non rooms-e To all whom it'mayconoema Be it known that I, FnA-NK Enos, Jr., a citizen of'the United States, residing at Norwich, county of llew 'lbondon, State of 5 Connecticut, have' 'in ented certain new and useful Improvements in Antifreezing Drinklug-Fountains for' Poultry; and E do declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable otlie'rs skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and. useful improvements in automatic anti.- freezing drinking fountains for poultry, and the p'rimargyohject thereof is to provide improved heating .means for the reservoir whereby to prevent the water from freezing. A further object of the invention is to providemeans whereby the reservoir may be easily and quickly removed from and applied to the heating means; to enable easy and quick access to the burner and automatic closure of the means of access; to provide a heater structure in which heat is supplied to the entire exterior of the fountain so as to effectively heat same throughout the en tire area thereof; j and to also provide a drinking cup ortrongh which can be easily and quickly applied to and removed from the reservoirto allow of cleansing thereof,
and to also enablercompactassemblage of the parts in packing for shipping purposes. The invention has further and other clojects which will later appear and manifest themselves in-the course of the following description. I W In the drawings: Figure lis a side elevationpf the invention; Fig. 2 is a central ver tical sectional View; Fig. 3 is a top-plan View of the heater means in detached "rela tion to the reservoir; Fig. l isan enlarged fragmentary sectional view .shcwin the looking or fastening means for the s oir and drinking cup in side elevation; is a similar view of the base of the rese voir showing the fastening means for the remov able drinking cup; and Fig. 5. is an enlarged fragmentary View, partly broken away and in section of the bottom portion. of the reservoir front.
The invention includes a tank or reservoir 1, having a top water inlet normally sealed by a removable closure 2, whereby water may be placed into the tank. As shown in Specification of Letters Patent. a inman ifinea august 12,
my'Patent No. 1055624, dated March-11,
1913, an air duct 3-is connected to theta-ink and has its lower end extending into the drinking cup or trough 4;, a pipe 5 establishmg communication between the duct 3 and the top of.the tank.- A siphon pipe 6 has one leg disposed within tank 1, and its opposite leg within drinking cup 4, the end of the siphon within the trough heingclosahle ries springs 8 whereby the valve is frictionally held no closed position and can be moved down to'open position, which means:
covers the openings 11. The wall 9. is provided with a hand opening l8-around which a door frame 14:, is secured, a door 15, pro vided with a glass covered sight opening 13 or peep-hole, being pivoted at 17 to the frame 14, whereby the action of the burner 18 which is located to the rear of the door may he observed at all times, and he reached by more opening of the door, the door when released gravitating to closed position,
v The burner 18, is connected to. the oil reservoir 19 which latter seats on the loottom 10. The inner side face of the Wall of the heater casing has a pair-of vertical guides 20 secured thereto and on opposite sides of the door opening which, guides slidahly engage with out-tnrned flanges 21, formed on the free ends of a horizontally disposed Ushaped guard 23, the guard 23 being provided with a rear air inlet 35 and with a top heat deflector 9A- Which dip: ctly' overlies the burner so as to protect the hottom of the water tank against the direct action ofthe heat or flame issuingfrorn the burner18 and to also deflect heat t the rear ofthe hsjarner. A chain 25 is erahly connected to the guard %S and t heater casing so as to prevent accio loss crdisplaceinent of To provide for automatic attachment ready and easy detachment of the tank and the structure, the lati a; provided with an outwardly extenoing Patented July 2?,1h15, 1914. Seria11 To..856,4=65.
by; a valve l-connected to a bar which carflange or rib 26 adapted be engaged on its under face by latches 27, which latter are pivoted to the tank 1, by ears 28, the latches being gravity operated so as to automatically ride over and engage under the rib 26, when the Water tank is placed on top of the heater casing. i
The duct 3 is reduced at 29 to provide a space into which the rear wall ofthe drinking cup 4 is received. The drinking cup 4: is of arcuate form and has its bottom seated on a rib 30 formed on the bottom of tank 1, and can be easily removed from the tank and applied thereto by a spring 31 31 and then moved upwardly to move the finger-34 outwardly to thus enable the latter to also bear against the rear wall of the cup, whereupon'the cup is then moved downwardly to have its bottom seat onthe rib 30.
The cold air enters the lower row of openings 11 and then passes through the opening 35 of the guard 23 to enable air to bev supplied to the burner, the 'hot air passing up' over the top of the guard 23 and then passes through the upper row of openlngs 11 and rises in a thin film-like manner in close proximity to the outer sidewalls of the water tank so that'the latter is thus protected by'a surrounding film of hot air thus preventing freezing of the water in addition to the heat .which directly acts on the bottom of the tank. The heater being also disposed adjacent to and beneath the drinking cup also heats the latter as well.
lVhat is claimed is 1. In combination with a water tank, a heater device including a casing having upper and lower circular rows of spaced apertures, a scrcencovering the openings, an oil reservoir in the casing having a burner, a horizontally disposed U-shaped guard which incloses the burner and has .its ends removably secured to the casing, and a horizontal deflector overlying the burner and connected to the guard sides in spaced relation to the closed end ofthe guard.
2. In a poultry drinking fountain, a
heater device, a watertank above said de'- vice, saidheater device having a door-open-' the water tank.
3. In a poultry drinking fountain, a heater device having a door opening, a water tank'thereon', a deflector having a closed end and an open end, means to removably connect the open end of the deflector to the heater device in opposite relation to the door opening, said closed end of the deflector having a, cold air inlet, and a top plate on the deflector space'd'from the closed end whereby heated air will pass up through the space between the plate and the closed end, the top of. the closed end ofthe deflector being spaced from the water tank bottom to form a hot air passage.
4. In a poultry drinking fountain, a heater device, a removable oil reservoir therein having a casing provided with lower cold air inlets and upper hot air. outlets,
a water tank on said device, a deflector having an open top and bottom and a cold air inlet at its base, and also having its top spaced from the. bottom of the water tank to provide a hot air passage, and means to deflect heat toward said passage, said deflector being removable and having its base edge seated on the reservoir.
In a 'poultry drinking fountain, a heater device, an oil reservoir having a burner thereon within said device, a water tank on said device, and a deflector composed of a member open at-its bottom and seated on said reservoir in surrounding relation to the burner and having its top spaced. from the water tank bottom and provided with an opening, said deflector having a cold air inlet at its base.
