Description

E. HEATH.
Improvement in Dovetailing-Machine's.
110,114,814, Patented Mag 16,1871.
0 g B E0 linitrd fittin time With.
ELANDER HEATH, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO S. W.'
SHAW, WILLIAM E. BROWN, AND LEONARD'GOSS.
Letters Patent No. 114,814, dated May 16, 1871.
\ IMPROVEMENT lN DOVETAlLlNG-IVIACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELANDER HEATH, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have in the proper position for forming the tenons and mortises, so that, by means of adjustable projecting stops or springs, any width of board can be quickly brought to its place ready for the saws.
Referring to the accompanying drawing for a more complete explanation of my invention- A is the cross-piece or guide, which is employed on either part of the machine.
This guide has a deep groove running its entire length, and within this groove are two slides, B, which are moved forward and backward by the screws D, on which they travel.
These screws have a shoulder at E, where they pass through the ends of the guides, so that they do not move themselves when turned.
Suitable lugs or springs G are made fast to the slides B so as to project out beyond the face ofthe guide A, and present a square shoulder to any board brought up against them from one side; or the board may be held between them.
If a very wide board is to be used it may be passed over the spring Grand made to rest against the spring H, which is similarly formed with a shoulder to hold the board. I
In case this stop is used the other one,'G, will simply be pressed down flush with the face of the guide and out of the way.
The stops G and H, on the slides 13, have their shoulders toward the center of the guide, so that the stops on one slide may be used when the board is brought up from one side, and those on the other guide are used when the opposite edge of the board brought up.
Each of the slides, with its stops, may be adjusted independently of the other by means of the screws D, so that, when set for a certain size of boxes to be made or boards to be dovetailed, the work can be rapidly accomplished.
Having thus described my invention,
lVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The adj ustabl slides B, with their elastic stops G and H, in combination with the cross-piece or guide A, the whole being constructed and operated as herein shown and described.
In witness'that the above-described invention is claimed by me I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
