With each truck frame unit, several plow beams 16 are connected through the medium of pivoted, vertically movable bails 17. At the rear end of each plow beam, a soil engaging member 18 is located and provided with a wheel 19 which serves, in efiect, as a revolving landside.
The forward ends of the arms of each bail 17 are provided with lateral projections l8 are connected, by means of rods 21 with the forward angle beam 3.
At .theforward end of each plow beam, a coupling head 23 is located and provided with a' vertically curved web 24; having vertical elongated slots 25 and having serrations 26 onone face. Bolts 27 pass transversely through the forward portion of the plow beam and through the elongated. slots '25 of the coupling. head, and between the plow beam and the serrated face of the web 24f, serrated block 27 is located. The coupling head 23 constitutes a portion of the connections between the plow beam and bail,
and by means of the connection between the plow beam and said coupling head, as above described, the plow beam can be adjusted in j a manner to level the soil-engaging parts.
The coupling head 23 is provided at the forward end with two jaws 28'29 disposed one above and in alinement with the other. The upper jaw is provided with a threaded opening for. the accommodation of a bearing block 30having a, conical bearing'surface for the upper conical end 31 of a shaft 32,
a conical bearing 33 being provided in the lower jaw 28 for the conical lower end 3% of said shaft. The intermediate portion of the shaft 32 is U-shaped in cross section and its forward side is recessed to receive a sectionalsleeve 35 mounted on the cross bar of bail 17. The shaft 32 is also made with a transverse groove36 to receive a rib'37 on the sleeve 35. A clamp 37 engages the forward s ide of the sleeve 35 and is engaged by the ends of a U-bolt 38 passing through the hollow shaft 32 and securing the latter to the sleeve. a
I It is apparent that the position of the shaft 32 can be adjustedtransversely on the sleeve 35 and thus permit adjustment of the distance of each plow beam from its neighbor.
A gage wheel 39 is provided for each plow beam and connected with the forward portion of the same by means of a vertically adjustable standard 40.
The rear portion of each plow beam is curved downwardly as at Al and the standard 42 of the soil-engaging parts is made with a curved recess to receive the curved portion ll,said standard and beam being adjustably secured together by means of bolts 4C3 passing through elongated slots 44:. A lifting lever 45 is provided for each plow, and each of these levers is pivotally connected to the vertical web of the rear angle beam 2. Each lifting lever A5 is made L-shaped and its longer arm is provided with a suitable detent to engage a notched segment 4E6 secured to the angle beam 2. The shorter arm 46 of each lever is con nected, by means of a chain A7 with the adjacent bail l7. Springs 48 are provided to assist'in lifting the plows, each spring being secured at one end to the angle beam 2 and connected at the other end, through the medium of curved links 49 with the short arm of the adjacent lifting lever.
From the construction and arrangement of parts above described, it will be seen that the forward end of each plow beam is connected with the truck frame through the medium of a vertically movable bail having horizontal pivotal connectionat its forward end with the truck frame and having connections at its rear end with the plow beam which will permit the plow beam to move vertically with the rear end of the bail and to also swing laterally. It will also be observed that the lifting lever is connected only with the forward end of the beam through the medium ofthe bail and coupling devices. 7
To effect the raising of the soil engaging parts of the plow, the-operatorwill move the lifting lever to raise the rear end of the bail and the forward end of the plow beam. When the forward end of the plow beam is thus raised, the wheel 19 carried by the soil engaging parts will rest upon the ground and the soil-engaging parts will rise with the beam and ride out of the soil.
When the plows are in their lowered or working positions, as shown in Fig. 2, the pivotal connection of the rear end of each bail with the forward end of the corresponding plow beam, will be approximately in line with the pivotal connection of the forward end of the bail with the truck frame and the point of the greatest resistance or center of load on the soil engaging part. The point of greatest resistance or center of load on the. soil-engaging part will, of course, vary in accordance with the condition of the soil and depth of plowing and it is therefore desirable that the plow shall be I so adjusted that the point of greatest resistance or center of load on the soil engaging parts shall bear the proper relation to the I on the plow standard, to raise or lower the forward end of the beam with which the bail, and consequently the draft, is connected.
By connecting the plow beams with the bails so that they can swing laterally, the plows will be permitted to conform to the natural draft and also permit the plows to caster when turning a corner. When the plow structure is turned to the right the swinging of the plows will cause them to approacheach other, and in order to prevent conflict with the plows with each other when a short turn is made,limiting means are provided and so constructed as not to interfere with the normal swinging of the plows. Such limiting means'may conveniently consist of telescoping rods 5556, .one of said rods being attached to one plow and the other rod attached to the adjacent plow to the right. One of said rods will .Jreferably me made tubular for the reception of the other and the limit of movement of one plow toward the other efiected by engagement of the solid rod with the bottom of the socket formed by the tubular rod.
It will be observed that the caster wheels at respective ends of the truck frame unit, are embraced by the end bails of the units but the height of the rear angle beam 2 is sufiicient to permit the end bails to be raised far enough to clear the caster wheels and said bails will not, therefore, interfere with the castering of the Wheels when the plows are raised.
The bracket 7 at one end of the forward angle beam 3 of each truck frame unit over-,
laps the adjacent end of the beam 3 of the next-truck frame unit and lies parallel with the ofiset end 50 of the bracket 7 on the lat- 5 of the various truck frame units are connected by rods 52, the ends of which are loosely connected with said angle bars.
The hinge connection at 5051 will permit the truck frame units to fiex vertically at right angles to the longitudinal aXes of said units, and the looseness of said hinge connection will permit the vertical flexing of the units relatively to each other at an angle to the longitudinal axes of the truck frame units.
The draft chains 53--54t which connect the plow structure with a traction engine, are connected with the angle bar 5 of the first truck frame units as shown in Fig. 1.
By shortening or lengthening one of these chains relatively to the other, the line of draft between the engine and the lplow structure willbe so changed, that the truck frames will be caused to swerve somewhat and the plows to swing laterally, thus bringing theplows closer together or moving themfarther apart (as the case may be) and thereby changing the width of furrow each plow will cut.
"Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. In a gang plow, the combination with a traveling frame and a plow beam having a plow body at its rear end, of a trailing bail pivotally connected at'its forward end with the traveling frame and pivotallyconnectedat its rear end with the forward end of the beam, a lever mounted on the traveling frame, and a connection between said lever and the bail, said lever and connection constituting the sole suspending and raising means for the plow beam and bail.

In a gang plow, the combination with a traveling frame and a plow beam having a, plow body at its rear end, of a trailing bail pivotally connected at its forward endwith the traveling frame and pivotally connected at its rear end with the forward end of the, beam, a lever mounted on the traveling frame, and a flexible connection between said lever and the bail, said lever and connection constituting the sole suspending and raising means for the plow beam and bail.
3. In a gang plow, the combination witha traveling frame, and a plow beam having a plow body at its rear end, of a trailing bail pivotally connected at its forward end with the traveling frame approximately in line with the line of draft of the plow body and pivotally connected at its rear end with the forward end of the beam, a lever mounted on the traveling frame, and a connectionbetween said lever and the bail, said lever and connection constituting the sole suspending i2nd1 raising means for the plow beam and 4. In a gang plow, the combination with a traveling frame and a plow beam having a plow bocly atits rear end, of a trailing bail pivotally connected at its forward end with the traveling frame and pivotally connected at its rear end with the forward end of the beam, a ground wheel journaled in rear of the plow body and serving as a rolling fulcrum there-for, a lever mounted on the traveling frame, and a connection between said lever and the bail, said lever and connection constituting the sole suspending and raising means for the plow beam and bail.
5. In an engine gang plow, the combination with a truck frame, a draft member pivotally connected at its forward end to the truck-frame, a plow beam having its forward end pivotally connected to the rear end of the draft-member, means for vertically and laterally adjusting the forward end of the plow beam with relation to the rear end of the draft member, and means for simultaneously lifting the rear end of the draft member and forward end of the plow beam, substantially as set forth.
6. In an engine gang plow structure, the combination with a truck frame, and a vertically movable trailing bail pivotally connected therewith, of a plow, a coupling comprising means adjustable laterally on the cross bar of the bail, meansconnecting said coupling with the beam of the plow, said coupling also comprising parts movable at right angles to each other and permitting free vertical and lateral swinging movements of the plow.
7 In an engine gang plow structure, the combination with a truck frame, and a plurality of trailing bails pivotally connected therewith, of a plurality of laterally swinging plows connected with said bails, and two-part rods having relative longitudinal movement and connecting the plows to limit their lateral movement in one direction.

In an engine gang plow structure, the combination with a plow frame provided with trailing caster wheels at respective ends thereof, of vertically movable trailing bails pivotally connected with the plow frame forwardly of'said caster wheels and embracing the latter, said plow frame having a part overhanging the bails, plows having their forward ends pivotally connected with the bails in rear of said caster wheels. lifting means on the overhanging part of the plow frame, and means connecting said lifting means with the bails to raise the forward ends of the plow beams.
