WINDING-MACHINE.
Patented July 27, 1915.
Application filed January 19, 1914. Serial No. 812,996.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, P1121 120 SARAGCO, a subject of the King of Italy residing in Turin, in Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Winding-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a machine for winding silk from the spinning drum and is provided with arrangements which facilitate the work and avoid accidental breaking of the thread, thus enabling a large output to be obtained.
The accompanying drawings show, by Way of example, a machine according to this invention :Figure 1 being the front elevation of the machine, and Fig. 2 showing in side elevation, partly in section, the drum for the skein.
As will be seen from Fig. 1, on the frame 1 of the machine is mounted a main countershaft 2 which, by means of cables or belts rotates about their vertical axis the spindles i on which are placed the spools 5 intended to receive the cleaned silk thread. The shaft 6, similarly driven off the main countershaft 2, is provided with eccentrics 7, with the circumference of which engage levers 8 to which is connected, by means of rods 9, the frame 10 on which are mounted the thread guides, one for each spool 5.
The cleaning member for the thread comprises as usual two plates 18 which are at an adjustable distance apart.
The support for the skein to be cleaned, is constituted by a drum 22 made for instance of a band of metal plate covered with a band 23 made of velvet or other material. This drum on which is placed the skein to be wound, is placed on a support 2 1 and left stationary with its axis vertical or almost vertical. On the said drum can be placed a metal ring 25 (Fig. 2) which, at the outer circumference, has a round edge 26 surrounding the upper edge of the drum 22. The thread leaving the skein must press on the edge 26, and consequently is detached from the skein, instead of sliding on it laterally. This guide ring is made so that threads which are slightly tangled do not break, as they can become more easily detached if the end is lifted off the skein, than if it were pulled aside, as would be the case without the ring.
The velvet or the like cover on the drum 22 is intended to keep the skein with the threads in their original position and to prevent the skein from rising when it is almost completely unwound, without it being necessary to give the skein any tension on its support.
In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the thread, guided by the ring 26, passes to the cleaner 18 whence it passes over the spool guided by the U-shaped member 16 which has a reciprocating motion parallel to the axis of the spool.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by' Letters Patent is 1. In a machine for unwinding skeins, a cylindrical reel with substantially vertical aXis for each skein, a velvet covering on each reel adapted to prevent the threads from moving away from their natural position and the Whole skein from becoming displaced on the reel, and means for raising the thread from said reel and for collecting it on a rotating support.
2. In a machine for unwinding skeins, a cylindrical reel with substantially vertical axis for each skein, a velvet covering on each reel adapted to prevent the threads from moving away from their natural position and the whole skein from becoming displaced on the reel, a ring with projecting edge arranged on the reel for detaching the thread therefrom, and means for raising the thread from the said reel and for collecting it on a rotating support.
3. In a machine for unwinding skeins, a cylindrical stationary reel with substantially vertical axis for each skein, a velvet covering on each reel adapted to prevent the threads from moving away from their natural position and the whole skeins from becoming displaced on the reel, and means for raising the thread from the said reel and for collecting it on a rotating support.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
