Be it .known that we, Louis ZEVIN. and Haney Znvnv, citizens off the United States, residing at New Britain, in thecounty of Hartford and State of Gonneeticut5 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain and Shade-Roller Holders", of which the followingis a specificat-ion.
curtain and shade roller holders, and the object of our improvement is simplicity and economy in construction and convenience and efficiency in use. I r v a r v In the accompanying drawing z Figure l is a front elevation of our improved curtain and shade roller holder, and a shade rol1er,'a curtain pole, and part of a window casing. same may element avertical sup orting a a 34 suitable fo r being seated a hs platform 26' and having apair of keyhole slots 35 suit- The eurtain bracket- 117 comprises ,as one able for engaging with the studs 27 so as to permit of being removably supported thereby. The key hole slots 35 comprise an enlarged portion or hole 36 at the lower end and a relatively narrower or slot like portion 37 extending upwardly therefrom. The hole portion 36 is of sufiicient size to pass over the head 58 of the stud 27 and the slot portion 37 is of less width than the said head 27, so that the upright supporting arm may be engaged with the base 18 by slipping the holes 36 over the heads 58 and then drawing the supporting arm downwardly so that the slot portion 37 will be positioned in registration with the heads and the lateral walls thereof will be overhung by the said heads 58.
The details of the formation of the heads 58 and the lateral walls of the key hole slots 35 may be varied considerably without departing from the spirit of our invention.
The curtain bracket 17 comprises the supporting arm 34 at the rear and extending vertically and a forwardly extending pole arm 38 extending forwardly from the upper end thereof and which serves as the support proper for the curtain pole 14, and is provided on the forward free end with means for engaging with and receiving the same, and which as shown is in the form of an are shaped loop or hook 39, open at the upper side. A cross brace 40 extends from the lower end of the supporting arm 34 forwardly and upwardly to the body portion of the pole arm 38, and serves as a reinforcing brace therefor. The brace 40 is integral with the supporting arm 34 at the lower end and is provided at the upper end with a forwardly extending foot 41 positioned along the under face of the polearm 38 and which foot is provided with a hole 42 for a clamping screw 43. The pole arm 38 has a hole 44 for the said clamping screw 43 and the said clamping screw is provided with a clamping nut 45. The clamping screw and nut 43 and 45 serve to clamp the free end of the brace 40 to the horizontal pole arm 38.
We prefer to have the pole arm 38 extensible, and in order to do this the said pole arm 38 is made of two overlapping parts respectively an inner or rear part 46 and an outer or forward part 47. The inner part 46 extends forwardly from the upper end of the supporting arm 34v and is formed integral therewith and the same extends over the foot 41 on the brace40 and which is provided with the hole 42 for the clamping screw 43, already mentioned. Between the hole 44 and the vertical supporting arm 34 the inner part 46 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 48. The forward part 47 comprises the pole loop or hook 39 at the front end and the body portion which overlaps the upper side of the forward portion of the inner branch 46 and is provided with a longitudinal slot 49 suitable to receive and in which is positioned the clamping screw 43 and the rear end has means for sliding engagement with the inner part 46 by means of the slot 48. The said latter means comprise a downwardly directed branch 50 comprising a head 51 positioned across the slot 48 on the lower side of the inner part 46 and which is connected to the body portion of the forward part 47 by a neck 52 which latter extends through the slot 48. The clamping nut 45 bridges the slot 49 in the forward part 47 and engages with the upper side of the said forward part 47, and when screwed onto the clamping screw 43 serves to lock the inner and outer parts 46 and 47 in the position to which they happen to be adjusted. The clamping screw 43 and nut 45 while serving to secure the overlapping parts 46 and 47 together as described also serves to hold the free end of the brace 40 to the composite arm 38 composed of the parts 46 and 47.
It will be noted that the parts 46 and 47 will be held against actual separation even if the clamping screw and nut 43 and 45 are loosely connected and not actually locked, because the screw 43 serves to position the parts in overlapping engagement and the head 51 serves to positively prevent the separation of the inner end of the forward part 47 from the body portion of the inner part 46.
In some cases it may be desired to support the shade roller 13 within the window casing 12 by placing the holders against the under side of the upper cross piece 53 thereof, as in the case of the left holder 10, shown in Fig. 10, the mating right holder not being shown. In this case the curtain bracket 17 is dispensed with and the platform 26 is correspondingly omitted. Furthermore, as the shade roller arm 30 is in pendent position the form of the slot 19 is changed accordingly, as shown in Fig. 12, suitably to operatively receive the ordinary flattened left end of the shade roller 13. In this case the shade bracket 15 is preferably positioned in the way 21 with the shade roller arm 3O outward relatively to the locking screw 25 so that in some cases if necessary the shade roller arm 30 may be brought to osition essentiallv flush with the lateral member 54 of the window casing 12.
As described, our curtain and shade roller holder comprises means for supporting shade roller brackets so as to permit of considerable leeway in the lateral adjustment thereof and also is provided with means for removably supporting curtain brackets, and the said curtain brackets are so constructed as to permit of readily adjusting the relative forward position of the curtain pole.
The curtain bracket as described comprises a fixed member of triangular shape, composed of the upright supporting arm 34, the forwardly extending branch 46 constituting the inner member of the arm 38 and the brace 40, all formed of one piece, having the ends overlapping and secured by the clamping screw 43 and nut 45, and also slidably secured to the slide member 47 constituting the forward part of the arm 38, and the securing means therefor comprising in part the said clamping screw 43 and nut 45. Accordingly, the fixed member described is rigidly constructed and the slide member is positively connected thereto and by means that permit of easy adjustment by manipulating a single clamping screw.
We claim as our invention In a curtain holding device comprising a base and a curtain holder removably supported therefrom, the said curtain holder comprising a curtain arm having a horizontally extending supporting arm, the said bracket being formed of a single piece of sheet metal in strip form, bent into triangular form, comprising one side extending horizontally, suitable to receive the said supporting arm, a second side extending downwardly from the rear end of the said first side, having means for being connected to the said base, and a third side extending diagonally from the lower end of the said second side to the underside of the said first side, serving as a brace, a flange-like extension at the upper end of the said brace underlying the said first side, the said extension and first side havingholes in registration and the said supporting arm having a slot in registration with the said holes, and v a clamping screw passing through the said holes and also through the said slot and a nut engaged with the said screw whereby the said clamping screw and nut serve to hold the ends of the said bracket together and also to secure the said curtain arm to the said bracket.
