To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, RICHARD L. WEARNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Washing-Machine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to washing machines of that type utilizing a motor as an operating means, one of the objects of the invention being to provide a trough or container having a novel form of corrugated bottom whereby the cleaning of the fabrics is expedited, there being a means combined with the tub for deflecting water downwardly onto the fabrics to further assist in the cleaning operation. v
A further object is to provide a tub or container having means for imparting both an oscillating and a swinging or tilting movement thereto.
A further object is to provide means whereby the tub or container can be readily coupled to or uncoupled from its acti lating 1111 and a portion means.
A. further obgect is to provide yieldable means connected to the tub or container proceeds, the invention. resides in the combinatlon and arrangement of parts and 1n the details of construction hereinaliter described and claimed, it being understood. that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can lee-made with the scope of what is claimedpwitlr out departing from the spirit of the in vention. f

Referring to the figures by charact rs of reference 1 designates a suitable frame which may be provided with upstanding structure 2 for supporting a wringer mechanism indicated generally at 8. As this mecl'ianisni does not constitute any part of the present invention it has not been shown in detail.
Extending transversely of andjournaled within the frame 1 close to the bottom thereof is a shaft 4: on which an upstanding lever 5 is closely mounted. so as to oscillate freely on the shaft. This lever is connected by a pitman Ii-to a drive dish 'Zsecured to and rotating with the shaft 8 of a gear 9. Said gear is preferably arranged in a housing 10, said housing likewise containing'a worm 11 which serves to drive gear l). Said worm is arranged on a shaft 12 provided wit; a policy 13 which receives motion through a belt 14 from a motor 15. Thus it will be seen that. during the actuation of the motor, the lever 5 will be oscillated onthe shaft l. As shown particularly in Fig. 5, the upper end of the lever is provided with an aperture l6 andwith oppositely extending" arouate arms 17, these arms being concentric with the shaft Secured to the shaft 4: adjacent each end is an upwardly extending supporting arm 18 provided, at its upper end, with oppositely extending arms 19.

Each of the arms 18 provided at its upper end With an opening 28 and these openings-are designed to receive trunnion-s 29 extending from spiders 30 which se-c cured to the flat sides of tub or container 31. The bottom of each spider 3031s pivotally connected to an anchor having a link 39: which, in turn, is pivotally connected to the top portion of the frame 1. Ears 33 are extended outwardly from the ends of the spiders and coiled springs 3d connect these levers to the adjacent arms 19.
The tub or container 31 has rounded end Walls 35 merging at their upper ends, into downwardly and inwardly curved deflectors 36, these deflectors being spaced apart by a depressed top portion 87 designed to support a closure 38. The bottom of the tub or container is made up of transverse angular corrugations 39 extending downwardly from the center of the bottom to the lower end of the rounded end Walls.
