the lio loving` description, reference li'ilsfure l is an ond elovation'ot an assembled ilir/fss embodvingr my in'iprorementsthe ripper portion ot the ily-wheel being broken to reduce the size Ot' the drawing, and '2 a'scetion taken on the line 2-2 of ol the machine comprises two principal iframe members, Viz., a base or Standard 'frame consisting ot'side members l., 'l rigidly united with each other by means of suitable moss-bolts and spaced bars, and a tilting trame designated as a whole 2 and comprisin;y a pair ol 'uprights 3 integrally united with a erossotrame bar Lil; the tilting traine being; provided on each side with trnnnions 'l l. lieten-ino; to the drawings,J the main 'trame 'r had to the accompanying drawings, in
which engage suitable bearing' apertures in l the npper ends ot the standard members, as shown at tl, i/l. The lower ends of the members 2 are. curved concentric `with the transverse trunnion axis of the tiltingframe and one of said members, the right-hand one provided with worm gear teeth which intermesh with a Worm shaft G journaled in suitable braChet-supports upon the inner eide of a correspOndiner frame member l.,
rThe end ot `the worm gear issquare, as m- :lieated aty 7 to receive a wrench whereby apper trame may he tilted to any desired position of angularity, in anohvious manner. fit the upper end o'f each frame member 3 Vtoinied a. suitable journal block e journal aled a main shaft 7 which projects bethe journal bearings some distance at end the lett hand end extending gh a brake-ring- 8 and the right-hand :carrying a ily-wheel '9.
the standard 3 is arranged to reciproa die-head 10, formed of any suitable 1g, and connected to the main shaft 7 on a revolution ot the main shaft known manner. The die-head 10 in' or i loc'l{`:iii'ange.d to Slide in e I iiiiea on the Standards 3. and pror ii its upper portion with an internally 'led socket or bore adapted to receive an axially disposed 'plug 1l provided with corresponding screw threads. The upper of the plug l1 is provided with a socketeiprocate a TNell by' a pitman. 12 in such a manner as to re-A head l1 adapted to receive a ball on the lower end of the pitman or connecting rod 12: the ball-and-socket joint thus formed beine` of ordinary construction. The sockethead 11 is provided with a series ot spanner holes ll whereby it may be rotated to raise or lower it-ri. lati\cly to the die-lilad proper by reason of its scrc\\'threaded con` neetion therewith.
In order to lock the plug 1l in adjusted position in the die-head, an integral transversely extending,r boss l0 is formed on the :front of the die-head. and this boss is bored to receive an eccentric lockingr bolt 39. The portion of this bolt next to the head lits the bore accurately. hut the central portion is reduced, as indicated at 39 and is slightly eccentric. Between this eccentric portion and the threaded side of the plug is interposcd a block 39 which, by the action ot the eccentric pin, is clamped against the plopr and so serves to lock the latter against rotation, The check nut 40 is threaded on the reduced end ot the locking;- bolt 3S) so that when the locking` bolt has been set the check nut can be turned up to lock it in this position. Both the head of the bolt 39 and the check nut are conveniently provided vwith Spanner holes instead of being made with tace/ts.
The main shaft provided with an intei-mediate crank or eccentric portion engaged by the upper end of the coni'i-ec'tingr rod or pitnian, the latter beine provided with the usual split journal, enabling it to be engaged with the crank.
Frein the foregoing; it *ill be understood that the connecting rod or pitinan is of iixed .length and is a solid piece from the crank oi .the main shaft vto the bali-ancl-soclet joint. The adjustment of the die-head to higher or lower position with respect to the crank is accoinplished Within the dic-head .itself `and not Within the pitman, as has heretofore been common. The pitnian being)r a solid piece is not liablr` to breakage.
I claim as iny invention- I l. In a die-press, the combination with a die-head, of a. pitinan of fixed length by which it is reciprocated, a bearing Within the die-head by means of which the pitman is pivotally connected thereto, and means by which said bearingl may be axially adjusted with respect to said dic-head.
2. In a die-press, the combination withv a die-head, of a pitman of fixed length by which it is reciprocated, an axially adjnstable plug threaded withinsaid. die-head,V said plug' being provided with a pivotal connection to said pitinan, and means by which said plug may be locked at any desired adjustment. v
3. In a die-press, the combination with a crank, a pitman, and a diahead, of screw threaded connection by which the distance between the Pitman and the dic-head is adjusted7 of a laterally movable section 'of the Sorenv threaded connection, and cani or eccentric member by which said section is operated to loclr or unlock said screwthreaded connection.
Ll. In a die-press, a die-head, axially adjustable member screwed into said diehead and providing a connection for a pitniajn, Ia transverse pin on said die-head and providing an eccentric surface near the threaded portion of said dic-head, and a movable section of such threaded portion, said movable section being so located as to be operated upon by said eccentric surface, substantially as described.
