of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Anchor-Posts for Guy- Ropes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in anchor posts for guy ropes.

The object of my invention is to provide a metallic anchor post having means for looking a guy rope at any desired tension. Also to provide locking means which will secnrely hold the rope without cutting or injuring it and which may be easily manipulated to release the rope when desired.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a tent showing one of my improved anchors in a position for use. Fig.

'2 is a longitudinally sectional view of the anchor and rope clutch drawn to a central plane which includes the clutch lever and clutch and which cuts the fulcrum pin transversely. My improved anchor post comprises a piece of metal, having its lower portion elbowed along a longitudinal axis A to form a pair of wings 13-13. This part of the post is V shaped in cross section as shown in Fig. l. Near the upper end of the anchor post the material of which it is composed is pressed into the form of a rectangular channel having side walls CC and a back pin E. The upper inner end of the lever D above the pivot pin E is provided with an extension F, bent rearwardly and clownturned along a curved line and constituting a rope engaging clutch. Directly in the rear of this clutch the anchor post is provided with an aperture Gr, preferably formed by punching the metal rearwardly from the inner side and expanding the outwardly and rearwardly bent portion to form a flange H, encircling the aperture G. rection of a horizontal plane as best shown at D in Fig. 2.

At the upper extremity of the anchor post I the side walls are turned inwardly along curved lines to form a cylindrical portion 1, adapted to receive a cap J, said cap performing the double function of preventing the walls of the post from spreading, and also of preventing sticks and soil from dropping into the upper end of the post and interfering with the operation of the clutch.

The guy rope K extends from the tent downwardly along a diagonal line in its ordinary relation to the tent. This rope is passed underneath the curved extremity D of the clutch lever D and then upwardly within the anchor post where it passes in the rear of the fulcrum pin E, and also in the rear of the clutch F and thence through the aperture G. With this arrangement it is obvious that when the anchor post is driven in the ground, as illustrated in Fig. l, with the front or lower end D of the clutch lever projecting in the direction of the tent, the rope may be readily drawn rearwardly through the post aperture G. The user will ordinarily place his foot upon the cap J, and pull upon the free end of the rope during this operation. hen the rope is released, the reactionary pull of the tent will draw upwardly and forwardly on the rope, lifting the extremity D of the lever D, causing the clutch member F to bind the rope firmly against the rear wall A of the post, and also bending the rope at a sharp angle adjacent to the aperture G. The rope will be gripped with increasing pressure as the strain upon it increases.

I claim 1. A. tent anchor, comprising a post provided with an aperture, through which a guy rope may pass, in combination with a clutch having a clutch actuating lever, pivoted to the post and extending outwardly and forwardly from the post, and adapted to loosely engage a guy rope between the post and the tent.

2. A tent anchor, comprising a metallic post, having laterally extending wings in its lower portion and a channeled upper por tion adapted to receive a clutch lever, and having its rear wall apertured,-said post, above the channeled portion, being cylindrically formed and provided with a cap,in combination with a clutch lever, pivoted in said channeled portion of the post below said aperture, and provided with a rope engaging member at its inner end and an operating arm at its opposite end, adapted to loosely engage a guy rope in front of the post.

An anchor post for guy ropes, including a portion having substantially parallel side Walls and an apertured rear wall, in combination with a lever fulcrumed between said side walls; one arm of said lever extending upwardly and rearwardly, and adapted to engage a guy rope between it and the rear wall adjacent to said aperture, said lever having another arm extending outwardly and forwardly from said channeled portion and from said fulcrum and adapted to loosely engage a guy rope.
