To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT N. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Methuen, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Loom-Shuttles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in loom shuttles, and the primary object of the invention is to provide improved means for gripping the bobbin so as to thereby retain the latter in place.

Further, the invention aims to provide a bobbin holding means which is of simple and economical construction, and which can be easily and quickly formed from a. single piece of sheet metal, and which also has incorporated therein a guide for the purpose of moving the bobbin to position to be en gaged by the holding jaws.

Further and other objects of the invention will. be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following specification.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention, the shuttle body being shown. in fragment and being broken away and sectioned. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4c4- of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a plan view of theblank. Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 1 of a modified form of the invention. Fig. 7 is a central longitudinal sectional view of Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a section on the line 88 of Fig. 6. Fig. 9 is a view similar to Fig. 7 of a still further modified form of the invention, and Fig. 10 is a view of the blank from which the holder is formed.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a blank is employed which is cut from sheet metal and comprises a body of substantially rectangular form having a pair of parallel longitudinal slits 1 which form a pair of side jaws 2 and a guide or tongue 8, which latter is disposed centrally intermediate the jaws 2, and is of less length than the latter. The body of the blank is also formed with a pair of apertures 4 located at the sides thereof.

structure as shown in Fig. 3 results, which structure acts as the anchor for the entire device and is secured to the shuttle as shown in Fig. 3 by passing a securing bolt 6 through the registering apertures 4- The jaws are formed or shaped with grooves 7 which receive the usual ring projections on the bobbin. The tongue 8 is bent downwardly at an incline to the top part 5 at 8 and has its free end turned under or directed toward the part 5 of the structure at 9 and rests on a shelf or platform which is provided in the shuttle body and is indicated at S.

From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the entire structure is formed from a single blank and that same can be easily and quickly stamped from sheet metal and bent or shaped on the dotted lines indicated in Fig. 5, to produce the finished structure or device. The part 5 which connects the rear ends of the jaws 2 acts to brace the latter where the same unite into the body proper of the holding device, and serves to provide a one-piece structure which is strong and due to being in one piece can be easily and quickly secured in position. In addition the bent end 9 acts to brace the top part 5 and to materially assist in retaining the entire structure in position.

Referring to the modified form of the invention a blank of cruci-form shown in Fig. 10 is employed, which blank is bent to have a horizontal top part 10 formed with depending side wings 11; a front end 12 and a bottom 13, thus forming a substantially U- shaped conformation which engages the projection P formed on the shuttle. The blank is further formed with side jaws 14. As shown, a pair of bolts 15 are employed to secure the head composed of the parts 10, 11, 12 and 13 to the projection P of the shuttle.

Referring to Fig. 9 of the drawings it will be apparent that a separate guide may be employed if desired, which latter has an inclined nose 16, and integral parallel top and bottom extensions 17 and 18, the latter seating respectively on the top 10 and the bottom 13 of the holder head. This guide serves the same function as the guide constituted by the tongue 8 in the preferred form of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination with a shuttle, a bobbin holder therefor consisting of a single blank bent to form an inverted U-shaped head portion for anchorage to the shuttle, the sides of the head portion being extended to provide integral jaws, and the top of the head portion havingatongue which inclines downwardly and terminates at points between the jaws and has a rearwardly directed knuckle which rests upon a shelf with which latter the shuttle is provided.

2. In combination with a shuttle, a bobbin holder consisting of a one-piece structure having a pair of jaws, and a connecting member for the jaws having an extension which inclines downwardly and is located between the inner ends of the jaws.

In combination with a shuttle, a bobbin holder consistingof a one piece structure having a pair of jaws, and a connecting member for the jaws having an extension which inclines downwardly and is located between the inner ends of the jaws, the free end of the extension having a knuckle adapted to rest upon a shelf provided therefor in the shuttle.

I. In combination with a shuttle having an integral upwardly extending projection, a bobbin holder having a top seated on top gral tongue on the head disposed between the jaws.

7. A bobbin holder formed of a sheet metal blank that has a head having a top,

sides depending therefrom, the sides being adapted to engage over an integral part of the shuttle, and the top to seat on top of said shuttle part, jaws integral with the head and a guide connected to the top and depending therefrom.
