BURNER-FOR LIQUID FUEL.
"Be it known that I, LiioroLo GAUTREAU, citizen of France, residing at 2 Rue Emile Deschanel, Paris, in the Republie of France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Burners for Liquid Fuel, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to burners consuming liquid fuel, and has for object improved burners which may be adapted for heating or illuminating and be of the upright, in-
verted. or inclined type.
In the accompanying drawings which are by way of example only,Figure 1 is a vertical section of an improved burner of the upright type for incandescent. illumination. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section thereof. Fig.

The burner illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a tube 1 through which the fuel is supplied; this tube is open at both ends and one end is in communication with the fuel reservoir or supply pipe and the other with the interior of the vaporizer or heater 2. This vaporizer or heater 2 consists in an annular tube provided with two holes arranged at diametrically opposite points. In said holes are respectively secured the inlet tube 1 and an outlet tube 3.
The vaporizer 2 communicates through thetube 3 with a socket 4 in which is fixed an ejector member 5 containing an axial orifice 6 of dimensions determined by the intensity of the light or heat which it is desired to obtain. The orifice 6 leads into the interior of a tube 7 provided near the ejector member with openings 8 and extending at the top into a mixing tube 12 provided near its lower end with holes 9. A perforated disk or piece of metal gauze '10, held inplace by a ring 11 or otherwise is located at the side of the holes away from the ejector 5. A funnel 12 provided at the top with a perforated disk or piece of metal gauze 14 is in communication with the interior of the tube 12 through the holes of 10. A cup 15 near the bottom of the apparatus may contain a certain quantity of fuel. For 'concentrating on the heater or vaporizer 2 the heat of the flames escaping from the holes 9, the heater or vaporizer is provided with a cap or cover 1 6 which extends closely around the central tube 12 whereby .the
heated gases are prevented to rise along.

The mannerof working is as follows A certain quantity of alcohol or other fuel is poured into the cup 1:1 and then ignited; The flames produced heat thevaporizer 2 and by conductivity the tubes 1 and3 the socket 4: and the ejector5. When the'va'por lzer 2 is, sufficiently warm the fuel is al-, lowed to pass into the tube '1" and on contact with the heated walls of the vaporizer this fuel is heated and volatilized and then passes "into the tube 3 from which it is conducted to the socket 4 whence it issues through the orifice 6 of the ejector 5. The fuel escaplng into the tube 7 draws in through the orifice 8 a certainquantity of air or other, diluent. The combustible mixture then reachesthe perforated disk 10 where a portion of the mixture owing to the resistance offered by the disk 10 passes out through the holes 9 and catches fire outside,
the tube 7, since it meets there the flames produced by the fuel in the cup1 5 the rest of the, mixture passes into'the funnel 12 and issues to theatmosphere where it is ignited and where in the case of an illuminating jet, it comes into contact with a suitable mantle which it raises to incandescence. The improved type of burner will be used as a rule in an upright position but it may also be used in an inclined or horizontal po sition. It isthen only necessary to modify the position of the starting cup so that it remains horizontal.
The burners described may also be used. for heating purposes by substituting a heating burner of any type for the illuminating burner shown, no other change being necessary.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A burner ofthe character specified, embodying therein an annular vaporizer, a perforated mixing tube concentric with and surrounded by said vaporizer, a perforated duct secured to said mixing tube, said perforated duct being removably screwed upon an injector supporting piece having an in jector at one end thereof, a fuel supply tube having one end opening into said vaporizer and at its opposite end in communication with a source of fuel supply, an outlet tube having one end opening into said vaporizer diametrically opposite the point at which the fuel supply tube opens into said vaporizer, the other end of said outlet tube being curved, said end carrying the injector sup-- porting piece and having an orifice in open communication with the injector, and a cap closely embracing said mixing tube and having its periphery bent over and conforming to the contour of said vaporizer.
