Beit knewn that I, PARK citizen of the United States, 1 Akron, in the ceunty of Summit 5 of Ohio, have invented a certain new useful Improvement in Cores for Menu: tm'e sf Pneumatic llire Casings, ef which the following is a full, clear, and exaet scription.
This invention relates to the lapsible cores which are chiefly ese in manufectureof the outer casings 01'' 301 tube pneumatic tires.
The object is to provide a core 1;

and therefore these flanges are made coex tensive with the sections of which they are parts.
The ends of the key section are parallel. and so also are the ends of sections B, B, against which said ends abut when the key section is in place. In the flange cl, of the key section, at each end thereof, is a slot (Z which extends from they end of the flange backward in an approximately circumferential direction. The slot does not, perhaps, as mightbe in the drawing, but it is precisely like the slot 6 shown in Fig. 1. In the adjacent end of the flange b of each of the abutting sections B, B, is a slot 6 which extends from its end backward in an approximately circumferential d rection, each of said slots b being placed so that they will be alined with the adjacent slot d in the adjacent end of the flange cl when the key, section is in place.
Two connecting at each joint between the key section and the two adjacent sections B, B. These plates are secured to opposite sides of the flange {1. Each pair of plates E projects beyond the adjacent end of the flange to which they are secured, and overhang opposite sides of the adjacent end of a flange b. A slot e is formed through each pair of plates E, which slot registers with and is'coextensive with the slots (Z and F7 in the flanges (Z and I).
A bolt G passes through he slots 6 in both plates and is provided with heads 9 on both ends outside of said plates. So long as these heads are secured on the bolt ends said bolts cannot be withdrawn from said slots. Preferably the heads 9 screw onto opposite ends of the bolts so that they may be adjusted as required to take up wear upon their inner faces or upon the outer faces of the plates E with which they cooperate.
Near the free ends of the platesvE, and on the inner faces thereof are the inwardly diwhich extend in directions parallel with the ends of section D. In the outer faces of the adjacent flanges b are V-shaped grooves b which are parallel with the plane of division between section D and the sections, B, B. They are so placed that they will receive the V-shaped ribs (2 when the key section is in place. In fact, when the key section is being slipped into or withdrawn from its place in the annulus, the

Until the key section D has reached its proper position between the ends of the adj acent sections B, the bolts G are back in the inner ends of the slots 6. When the key member D has. been properly positioned between the'ends of the section B, the work man slips the bolts G along the slots .e'.

adjacent ends of the flanges b, and these oppositedireetion in the slots 6, so as to be inside of the ends of the flange d. When, now, the freed key member is moved inward toward the center of the annulus, the plates E go with it, and do not therefore interfere with such movement, as they would, if they were attached to the flanges 6 instead of to the flange d. Likewise the bolts remain connected with the key member so that they cannot be lost or misplaced. They are where they are wanted for use when the key member is again slipped into place to com-- plete the core.
