Description

c. J KLEIN. MEANS FOR SECURING CONTACTS.
APPLICATION FILED 0CT.28, T913- Patented June 2 2, 1915.
mm" 1 n w d. KLEKN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of li'iilwauliiee and .ii 'e of Wisconsin, have invented new and St 'ul laimovements in l v'ieaifis for Securnsj t i'mtarts, of which the following is atoll, clear, concise, and exact description, reference had to the acoi'nnpanying drawing", forming a part of this specification;
This invention relates to electric contacts and more particularly to iinpror'ed means for securing the same to their supports.
its is well knowni the contacts of electric switches, and especially the stationary conacts oi. snap switches, are often subjected strain by the movable oontaetor upon 0pt oration of the switch, with a consequent liability of displacement.
fine of ti o objects of my invention is to provide simple and. ei'lioient means to solidly anchor suoh resilient stationary contacts. 7
A further object is to provide simple and practical means whereby such contacts may be rigidly held to their supports by the use oi. single screws.
Another object is to provide means adapt ed to hold such contaotsagainst rotation about securing screws and at the saine time to wedge said screws against loosening,
in order to more fully disclose my invention have illustrated the preferred embodiineut thereof in the accompanying i rawin in the drawing, Figure l is a top plan view of the cont ct; Fig. *2 is a side View of the same in initial position upon a support; and, 3 is a similar View of the same when secured to the support.
- The contact comp-rises a Contact portion 1" -s preferably annular and provided with an aperture 3 to receive a securing serew 4 for mounting the same upon a support 5, for
example, an insulating block.
The ani'uiiar base 2 is spilt at one side, as
Specification of Letters Patent.

at 6, and the adjacent ends 7 and 8 thereof are bent slightly downwardly. The base is thus substantially flat except for the V- shaped resilientdepression at one side.
The support is provided on its upper face with all-shaped recess 9 to receive the bent prongs 7 and 9 of the contact base. [in aperture 10 extends through the support adjacent the recess 9 for the sceuriugscrew 4. in practice, the support may also be provided with a recess 11 in its lower face to receive a nut 1&3 into which the threaded end of the screw 4 threaded.
The angle of depression. of the prongs '7 and 8 is slightly greater than the angle of the recess 9, as shown in Fig. 2. llhen the contact is being mounted, the head of the screw 4. thus presses the bent portions 7 and S of the contact base firmly into the recess 9 and locks the contact against turning. Due to the difference in the ll-angles or depths of the support recess 9 and the bent portions 7 and '8, the latter are resiliently tensioned by the-screw head when the same is screwed home and thuswedge the screw against loosening in the support.
While I have illustrated and described herein the preferred form of my invention, itis to be understood that the same may assume other forms without departing; from the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim. as new and desire to by Letters Patent is:
in combination, a contact having a substantially flat base with a resilient portion inclined thereto, and an insulating block for said base having a recess with an in clined lace to receive said resilient portion, the inclination of said resilient portion beinggreater than the inclination of said recessed face whereby said resilient portion is compressed when said base engages said bloelr. i
in witness whereof, I have l161GU11tOSl1bscribed my na-me'in the presence of two wit nesses.
CHARLES d. KLEIN.
