' y invention relates to a combined freight and stock car shown in-the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the following specification and claims. Theobject of my invention is an improvement in the general construction of-adj-ustable double deck cars, in which two separate compartments are provided for shipping small stock, and which may be adaptedfor form a part of this carrying ordinary freight by lowering the adjustable deck that it may rest upon the platform of the car.
Cars of this character are usuallyprovidedwith a central-longitudinal shaft exfitted on the rotating the shaft, whereby the deck may be raised or lowered as required. 2. In a car of the character described, a body having a door opening therein, a vertically movable platform within the car body, means for supporting, raising and lowering the platform, rods carried by the platform adapted to support stock doors, and means adapted to slidably hinge the stock doors to the rods carried by the "platform, whereby the doors may be folded under the platform upon lowering the latter to the floor of the car body.
3. In a car of the character described, a winding shaft, a platform connected with said shaft, means for rotating the shaft to raise or lower the platform, and a plurality of U-shaped brackets hinged to vertical members of the car body and adapted to be rocked into position to receive and support the platform when raised, or out of the path of said platform, whereby the platform may be lowered to the floor of the car.

In a car of the character described, a rotatable shaft, a platform connected with the shaft, means for rotating the shaft to raise or lower the platform, a plurality of U- shaped brackets hinged to vertical members on opposite sides of the car body, the brackets for each side being connected together to operate as a unit, whereby they may be collectively rocked into position to support the platform when raised, and shifted out of the path of the platform that it may be lowered.

In a car of the character described, a rotatable shaft, a platform frame connected with the shaft, means for rotating the shaft to raise or lower the platform frame, a plurality of brackets hinged to and embracing vertical members of the car frame having projecting arms adapted to support the platform frame when tilted into the path of the latter, and a swinging latch carried by each of the brackets to support the latter out of the path of the platform frame, whereby it may be lowered or raised.
7. In a car of the character described, a rotatable shaft, a platform frame connected with the shaft, means for rotating the shaft to raise or lower the platform frame, a plurality of brackets hinged to the car frame having projecting arms adapted to support the platform frame when tilted into the path of the latter, and means comprising a latch hinged to each of the brackets adapted to bear against the car frame to support the brackets out of the path of the platform frame, whereby it may be lowered or raised.
