Application filed October 28, 1914.
To all wiz om. it may concern Be it knownthat I, GEORGE A. GAUTHIER, a citizen of the YUnited States, residing at I-artford,l in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Binding-Posts,I
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a binding post which is more particularly designed for and intended to be used in connection with rotary snap electric switches, for securing the ends of the conducting wires.
The object of the invention is to provide a binding post which is Very cheap to make, simple to apply to a switch-base and which is so shaped that the end of a circuitwire may be very easily and securely fastened in an. approved manner. Figure 1 of the accompanying -drawings shows a front view of a binding post which embodies this invention, fastened t0 a Section of the base of a snap switch. Fig. 2 shows a plan of the same. Fig. 3 is a View looking at one side. Fig, Li is a view looking at the other side of the binding post.
The Apost has a back wall l which is provided with a threaded perforation for the binding screw 2. Projecting backwardly from the wall of the post shown, is a ple 3 which is designedv to be engaged by the spring fingers of the movable part ofthe switch with which the 'binding post is used. Extending on each side of the back wall are ears -1 with threaded openings for the screws 5 which are used to fasten the binding post to the switch base (3. Extending forwardly from one side of the back wall and desirably somewhat oblique ,with relation to the plane of the top of the switch base is a wall 7 andk extending'y forwardly from the edge of the back wall on the other side of the binding screw is a lug 8.
The binding post is fastened to the switch base in such relation to the opening 9 in the base and through which the end of the circuit wire is passed, that a channel is formed in line with said opening for guiding the end of the wire when it is passed through the switch, this channel being bounded by the back wall, the forwardly projecting 'wall on one side, the shank of the screw on the other side and the head of the screw at the front. Snap switches are placed against the surface of a wall, and with binding posts formed with such channels as described, the

, switches may be easily thrust onto the ends of the circuit wires and set back against the surface of the wall and fastened in position with the ends of the wires passing through the channels in position to be secured. After the switchbase has been put into piace and onto the ends of the circuit in the manner stated the bai-ed ends of the vwires are bent. over and backward and` snapped under the lugs and back of the heads of the screws. Then when the screws are tightened the bared ends of the conducting wires, which are thus easily located, will be clamped against the back wall of the binding posts'- and prevented from squeezing out from under the scr'ew headsfby the side Walls 0n one. side and the lugs on the other.` -Thus, with this construction the ends of the wires are readily engaged with the binding posts and tightly and securely clamped by the binding screws.
The invention claimed ,is
1. 'A binding post for a snap switch having a back wall, a binding screw turning 1n other side of the screw from the side wall and in conjunction with the screw forming an additional means for holding the end of the circuit wire securely in place when the binding screw is turned in.
2. A binding post for a snap switch having a back wall with a threaded opening, a binding screw turning in. said threaded opening in the back wall, a. contact plate extending backwardly from the v'back wall, attachment ears extending outward from the sides of the back wall, a side wall extending forward from the back wall on one side of the screw and a lug extending forward from the back wall on the other side of the screw.
