WINDOW ATTACHMENT.
State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Window Attachment, of which' the following is a specification.
. This lnventlon relates to an lmproved attachment or storage'box for windows.
An object of the present invention is to provide a detachable casing or storage box which in addition'to' being simplevin construction, is securable to a window without in any way marring or defacing the window frame.
A further object is to provide a casing having novel means whereby it maybe effectively secured to windows of difierent widths without requiring the use of nails, screws, or other similar means. I 7
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides'in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof, the preferred embodiment of my invention is illus trated, in which Figure l is an inner view of the invention applied to a window frame, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, parts being broken away. Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmental View illustrating the manner in which one of the securing rods rigidly engages within the sashway of a window frame. Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmental view in perspective of a portion of the bottom of the casing or box illustrating the manner in which the same is curled to form a guide sleeve for the securing rod. Fig. 5 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the securing rods.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the window frame Fis of the conventional forni and includes upon each side, the outside facing 6, the j amb 7, parting strip 8 and inner casing 9.
Specification of Letters Patent.

' Application filed May 2, 1914. Serial N 0. 836,954.
The box or casing 10 has a number of partitions 11 for conveniently receiving the articles or provisions to be housed within the casing. The casing is preferably formed of sheet metal which in addition to being light in weight, allows the attachment to be manufactured at a relatively low cost. The
inner edge of the top 12 and bottom 21 of the casing are curled, as at 13, to form cylindrical open ended guide sleeves 1i, each of which is provided with two spaced longitudinal slots 15 and series of lateral or transverse notches 16 communicating with the slots.
Each guide sleeve or tube slidably receives a pair of securing rods 17 having their remote or outer ends projectable beyond the opposite ends of the guidesleeves and provided with angular portions or fingers 8 which are arranged to readily enter and then swing to binding or locking position in the sash ways between the parting strips 8 and facing 6. 'Each rod is provided with a transverse threaded socket 19 receiving a locking knob 20. The locking knobs 20 are slidable within the respective slots 15 to allow the securing rods to move longitudinally of the sleeves to thus engage windows of different widths.
The casing or box is provided with the inwardly opening door 22, the same being hinged at its lower extremity, as at 23, to the bottom of the casing, thus when open forming a temporary shelf upon which articles may be disposed prior to their final disposal and orderly arrangement within the various compartments with which the receptacle is provided. A suitable latch 24 or equivalent locking means is carried by the free end of door 22 to engage the top 12 and hold the door closed so that the receptacle may be used in the capacity of a storage box, should it be so desired.
To apply the casing or box 10 to the window frame F, the knobs 20 of the securing rods 17 are disengaged from the notches 16 and slid inwardly or toward each other, to retract the remote or outer ends of the securing rods. The casing or box 10 may be readily inserted within the window frame, and when properly positioned, the securing rods 17 may be projected so that their angular end portions or fingers 18 will readily enter the sashways of the window frame between the parting strips 8 and the outer facing 6. In this manner the securing rods ,areengaged vvithin the outer sash Ways, to enable the'inner sash to be readily raised and lowered Without interference. When the knobs 20 are slid Within the slots15 to project the rods 17, the angular end portions or fingers 18 of the rods 17 Will be disposed upward so as to readily enter the sash ways,
- fingers 18. of the rods to bind or Wedge Within the-sash Ways of the Window frame, and" to thereby hold thecasing or boX 10 firmly in place. Thus, When the knobs 20 are sivungto engage the notches 16,,they' will ,.not only hold the rods 17 against sliding movement, but ill also cause the portions or fingers 18 at the outer or remote ends of the rods to bind Within the sash Ways.
The device may be readily removed by releasing the knobs 20 from the notches 16,
andretracting the securing rods 17.
' Having thus fully described my lnvention anddelineated several of its various uses,
WhatI claim is attachment of scribed,- comprising a casing, the top and bottom of Which have their inner edges curled to form. guide sleeves, the guide sleeves having longitudinal slots and series the character deof lateral notches communicating with the slots, a pair of securing'rods slidably dis posed Within each guide sleeve and projec-s table beyond the ends thereof, and knobs carried by the rods and slidable Within the said slots to engage in the said notches, the
remote ends of the rods having means for binding Within the sashways of a Window frame When the knobs are engaged in the notches.
2. An attachment of the character described, comprising a ca-sing thetop and '7 bottom of Which have their inner edges curled to form guide sleeves, the said guide sleeves having longitudinal slots and series of lateral notches communicating With the said slots,a pair of securing rods slidably disposed Within each, guide sleeve and projectable beyond the ends. thereof,'the rods being provided with angularfingers at'their" fingers enter and Wedge'vvithin' the sash vvays' of'a Window frame. r
. In testimony that I'claimthe foregoing as my own, I havehereto affixed my signature inthe presence of two Witnesses.
