Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1915.
Application filed March 17, 1914. Serial No. 825,347.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GABRIEL F. RAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roswell, in the county of Chaves and State of New Mexico, have invented a new and useful Dish-Washer, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to a dish Washer or liquid agitator, and aims to provide a novel and improved contrivance of that character.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a dish washer including in combination with a receptacle or pan, and dish holding or supporting means therein, novel agitating means within the receptacle for spraying the water against the dishes to cleanse the same.
Another object of the present invention is to provide novel means for actuating the agitating means.
It is also within the spirit of the present invention, to provide an appliance of the nature indicated, which will be comparatively simple, compact andinexpensive in construction, as well as being siinple, convenient, serviceable, practical and eilicient in its use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention reside? in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and'claimed, it being understood that changes inthc precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be zadc within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein t"- Figure 1 is a vertical central section of the improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a fragmental sectional view, taken on the line 2- -2 of Fig. 1.
In carryin out the present invention, there is provided areceptacle or container 1 of any suitable character, which is preferably, although not necessarily, of inverted frusto-conical form, in order that its sides will be inclined. The receptacle or pan 1 is provided with a cover 2, which is divided diametrically into two sections 3, the adjoining edges of the cover sections being provided with cooperating notches 4 forming an opening, centrally of the cover and receptacle.

bearing being provided with a peripheral" groove 6, which groove receives the edge portions of the cover sections3 defined by the notches l, whereby thevnotches 4 embrace the hub portion of-the bearing, while the flanges of the bearing overlap the upper and lower faces of the cover sections. It is evident that the bearing maybe readily ap-' plied to and removed from the cover, when the cover sections are separated) The cover sections may normally be locked. together by any well known means, which i is not necessary to illustrate or describe in detail.
The agitating means includes an upright shaft or spindle 7 journaled through the bearing 5 and having its slower end journaled within a socket bearing 8 secured upon the bottom of thereceptacIe' 1, the shaft 7 being arranged axially or centrally of the receptacle. In' use, when the cover or one section thereof, is removed from the receptacle 1, the dishes may be readilyplaced upon the shelfportion 22 of the rack, and the dish water may be readily poured into the receptacle. In'this manner, the shaft 7 will be rotated at a high velocity,in order that the water within the rotor or agitator 9 will,

In this manner, the water is elevated within the rotor and is discharged radially through the upper portion of the rotor in a spray, the jets impinging against the dishes with suflicient force to cleanse the same properly. As the operation is continued, a circulation of water will be established upwardly through the rotor, thence outwardly against the dishes, due to the cen trifugal action created by the rotor, the water then flowing downwardly from the dishes to the bottom of the receptacle and to the lower end of the rotor to be sucked up into the roton n M1,. It will be-evident that the several parts:

From the foregoing, the several advantages and capabilities of the present device will be obvious without further comment, it. being noted that the objects aimed at have been carried out satisfactorily.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is 1. An agitating device comprising a re ceptacle, a cover therefor including separaole sections,',the cover sections having coiiperating notches formingan opening, a hearing disposed within the said opening and having a peripheral groove engaging the edge portionsof the said notches and providing flanges overlapping the top and bottom of the cover sections, a bearing secured upon the bottom of the receptacle, a shaft journaled through the first mentioned hearing and having its lower end journaled Within the second mentioned bea ring, and an agifor enabling the spindle to be detachably HHHlIitBd upon the shaft, an actuating mechanism carried by the spindle, and means carried by the shaft engugeable with the said mechanism when. the spindle is assembled with the shaft, is enabie the shaft to be r0- tilted.
