T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, JOHN N. Hamann, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warren, in the county of Trumbull and State. of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Sidewalk and Road Form, of which the following is a specification. The device constituting the subject matter of this application isa form adapted to be employed in the making of curbs. and particularly in the making of curbs which are combined with a road bed.y
011e object of the present invention is to provide a means whereby thecurb and the road bed may be formed as a monolithic structure.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means whereby the 'front plate is suspended from the back plate of the mold.
Another object of the invention is to provide novel means whereby the front plate and the back plate, or the back plate if the latter is used alone, may be adjusted vertically uponl a supporting member or stake.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the back plate and connected parts may be adjusted in a horizontal direction, to the end that the angle between the back plate and' the vertical may be changed.
Il; is within the scope of the present disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that general type hereinafter described.
vWith the above and other objects in view which will appear' as the description prooeeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in' the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope 0f what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing z-Figu're 1 is a. perspectiveview showingr a. curb form embodying the present invention; Fig. 2 is -a transverse section of the curb form, a portion of the road bed and the curb appearingr in section; Fig. 3 is a perspective of one ot' the spacing plates; Fig.l 4e is a perspective of the key which cooperates with the spacing plate shown in Fig. 3; Fig. 5y is a. ragmental section view showing-.gne application of the mold under conditions'in which certain elements of the mold as shown in Fig. 2 are omitted. Fig. 6 is a fragmental perspective showing' the support and the bracket carried thereby.
ln carrying out the present invention there is provided a back plate 1 equipped with a top flange 2 havingl a depending,- lip 3. In the top flange 2, openings 20 are formed at intervals. rlhe back plate l is provided `with t bottom flange l having an upstanding A plurality of supports preferably in the ln its upper edge the bracket plate 1l is pro-l vided witha notch 12 receiving,- the top lip? 3 of the back plated, the construction being such that when the top lip 3 is lodged in the notch 12, the lip will be in engagement with the flange 7. The bracket plate 1l is provided with an upright slot 14, having horizontal branches 14:". Securing elements 15 which may be bolt and nut structures lie in the slot 14- and may be engaged in any of the openings 9 in the flange 8 of the support 6. Owing" to the foregoing details, the bracket 1l may be adjusted vertically or horizontally, and with it the back plate 1.
Disposed transversely of the support 6 and' in engagement with the flange 8 thereoic is an abutment 16 whichili desired may oomprise a handle 17. The abutment 16 vis supplied with a longitudinal slot 18. Engaged in the slot 18 and achtpted to be engaged in any of the openings 10 of the flange 8 is a securing element such' as a wing bolt 19. The forward end of the abutment 16 engages the rear tace of the bottom lip 5 of the back plate 1 and the construction is such that by loosening; the wingr bolt 19. the abutmont 16 may be moved horizontally thereby varyingthe angle which the back plate 1 defines with respect to the vertical. Obviously, by insertingr the wing bolt 19 into the various openings l0. the position of the abutment 16. vertically considered. may be adjusted, thereby permitting the forward lll) end of the abutment 16 to engage with the bottom lips 5 of back plates l having {liderent heights.
If desired, a spacer 37 may be inserted between the flange 7 of the support 6 and the bottom lip 5 ot the back plate l for the purpose of adjusting the angle deined by the back plate with respect to the vertical. The spacer 37 may be of Wedge-shape it desired, or one spacer of a given cross section ma): be replaced by another spacer cfa different cross section.
A plurality of spacing members 21 are provided the same preferably being in the form of lates. In' its lower edge, each spacing p ate 21 is provided with a notch 22 defining a linger 23, and in the lower edge of each spacing plate 21 there is a notch 24 defining a linger 25. Adjacent its forward,
upper corner, the spacing plate 2l may be provided with an opening 2'( adapted to receive a removable key 28 preferably in the form of a pin. A cross pin 2G may be secured in the spacing plate 21 adjacent the rear upper corner thereof.
The invention embodies a front plate 29 which is of less height than the back plate l. the front plate 29 having a top Harige 30 provided with a depending lip 31, and having a bottom flange 32 which may be curved slightly, as shown at 33 in order to shape the place of juncture between the roadbed 35 and the curbing 34. ln the top flange 30 of the front plate 29, openings 38 are formed.
In .order to assemble the spacinpr plate 2l with the back plate l, the upper edge of the back plate 1 is engaged in the notch 22, the finger 23 passing downwardlv through the opening 20 and being engaged with the rear face of the back plate. The cross pin 26 lies in an accessible position Within the contour of the opening 2() and by engaging a suitable hook (not shown) with the cross pin 26, the spacing plate 2l may be lifted up when desired. The notch 24. in the spacing plate 21 receives the upper edge .of the front plate 29. the finger 25 passing 'downlwardly through the opening 38 and coperating with the forward face of the front plat/e. When the parts are thus arranged the movable key or pin 28 is inserted through the opening 27 in the spacing plate 21 and engages beneath the top flange 30 of the front plate 29. The cooperation between the parts now is such that the plate 29 will be suspended from the spacing plate 30, the latter being upheld by the back plate 1.
Noting Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be observed that when the mold is set up for use, the roadbed 35 and the curbing 34: may7 befashloned in a single operation and will be permitted to coalem and form a monon lithic union, below the front plate 29.
At times it may be desirable to fashion a roadbed 36, as shown in Fig. 5, with which ll parts of the structure, with the possible exception of the spacer 37 preferably are made of metal.
The device herein disclosed is so constructed that it is not necessary to fashion the curbings separately and then to concrete between them to form the roadbed, an operation which at once is costly and inconvenient. l
