To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR I. FIsoHER, citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drinking Fountains or Faucets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to drinking fountains or faucets, and the invention comprises a drinking device constructed and adjustably arranged substantially as herein shown and described and moreparticularly pointed out in the claims.

The object of the device is to cause an outflow of water for hygienic drinking purposes, the stream of water being projected in solid formation to different heights and in varying volume as may be predetermined and fixed by regulating means within and which is only accessible to authorized parties and not to others lacking the proper tools for opening the device.

Another object is to provide a small opening in the bottom of the cup to promote selfcleaning and to drain the same when the main supply is shut ofi. Drainage is particularly necessary in cold weather when there is danger of freezing, bursting and other ill effects.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a faucet showing my invention embodied therein. Fig. 2 is a side view, partly in section and full size, of my improved bubbling device. Fig. 3 is a sectional view centrally through all the parts on the line of the vent and drain opening. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the cap with a wrench engaged therewith inside.

The device comprises a flaring cup 2 having open ends, both of which are internally threaded, the smaller end 0 being adapted to screw-engage an externally threaded body part 3 having a seating flange 4: for the cup and a reduced conical nipple or upper extension 5 through which a small opening 6 extends into a larger bore 7 which is threaded to screw or to be otherwise secured upon a supporting pipe 8, either straight or bent, dependent upon whether the device is attached to a faucet or valve 9 as shown in Fig. 1, or in some other way. The upper larger end 10 of the cup is screw-engaged either internally or externally by a cover or cap 11 having a dished upper face and a central opening 12 through which the water discharges in a stream to a height and in such volume as may be predetermined by the setting of a hood 14: in definitely fixed relations with the conical nipple 5. This hood comprises a knurled head 15 adapted to be gripped by the fingers or a tool when cap 11 is removed and out of the way, and its larger flanged portion is internally threaded to screw-engage the threads on body part 3 and has one or more small openings 16 in its side and a conical recess 17 in its inner top end coacting with the taper of the nipple 5, whereby the water issuing from opening 6 may be checked and regulated and caused to flow in a downwardly direction all around and out of openings 16 into the cup 2. The space about the hood 15 within the cup fills up and forms a solid body of water which advantageously discharges in a column through opening 12. A small opening 18 is also drilled through flange 4 and along the side of body part 2 to a point above the inner bottom of the cup, the object being to provide a drain for the cup when the water is turned off, and if desired, the said opening may be made in the bottom end of the cup itself, particularly if the body part is made integral with the cup instead of separable as shown.

Cap 11 is shown as having wrench engaging surfaces 19, whereby the cap and the cup may be so firmly united that hand unscrewing of the parts is impossible. However, this surfaced portion of the cap may be made plain, and suitable wrench engaging recesses or lugs 20 formed on the inner side of the cap instead, see Fig. 4:. In this latter event the wrench would be inserted through opening 12 to reach said recesses or lugs.

A rotatable union connection 21 between pipe 8 and the body of the faucet permits the device to be turned downward at any time so that a column of water may be discharged without splatter into a vessel placed to receive it.

The cup and its contained parts is also sold as a separate article of manufacture to be used wherever a valved supply pipe may be found.

'2. A drinking device comprising a body having an annular shoulder and an externalscrew-thread extending from said shoulder to the end of said body and having a conical nipple provided with a central water,

passage, a flaring cup having an internal screw-thread at its reduced end engaged with said body in abutting relations with said shoulder, a hood having a conical recess over said nipple and adjustably mounted in respect thereto by screw-engagement with said body and provided with side out lets, and a screw cap for said cup having a central water outlet over the closedtop portion of said hood. 7 I 3 Y 3. A drinking device comprising a shellshaped cup gradually enlarged from bottom to top and having internal screw-threads at both ends, a screw-threaded body engaged by'the smaller end of said cup havingla conical nipple with a passage through the same and having a small external groove at its bottom, in combination with'an internally screw-threaded hood adjustably seated over said body and having a conical recess opposite said nipple and openings for the discharge of water at its sides, and a 'cap for said cup engaging the screw threads at the larger end and provided with a discharge opening at its center;
