ELECTRIC-CABLE a'Ei'z'mmAn v To all whom it may concern: I
' socket piece 7 is made of conducting mate- Be it known that I, GUSTAVE Ll HERz, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and resident of Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Electric-Cable Terminals, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is-to provide novel features of construction whereby an electric cable terminal maybe securely fastened to the cable in a very neat and simple manner, in which the terminal may be rapidly brought into and out of engagement -m place by molding it into the casing rather than by securing itby means of a separate fastening device, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.. The spark plug is denoted as a whole by 1 its electrode by 2 and its insulator by '3.
The electric conducting cable comprises the usual core land the protectlve covering 5. 85
The terminal comprises a casing 6 and conducting socket piece 7 having a socket 8 for removably receiving the spark plug electrode 2. The walls of the socket 8 are preferably slit to form spring ton es 9 for frictionally engaging the e ect'ro e2.
, The casing 6 is made of non-conducting material, such as rubber compound, and the rial, such, for instance, as brass. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 this socket piece .7 is held within a recess 10, formed in the casing 6, by of a screw 11 which passes through the casing into the said socket piece. the. form shown in I Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 25,1913. Serial No. 756,720.
'core 4 of the cable. protective-skirt 15 surrounding the socket Patented Ma y1 8, 1915.-
the socket piece is molded or otherwise securedin its recess 10 without the use of an exterior fastening device. The cable 5 is inserted into a recess 12 formed in the easing 6. In the present instance, this recess '12 is shown at right angles-to the recess 10.
An electrical connection is formed between the core 4 of the cable 5 and the socket I piece -7 and the terminal is at the same time secured to the cable by means of a wood screw 13 which passes through-the casing and a hole 14 in the socket piece into engagement with the wires which form the The casing 6 has a piece 7 and extending outwardly from the casing'a sufiicient distance to form a protection for the insulator 3 of the spark plug.
It is'evident that slight changes might be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the structureherein set forth, but
What I claim is 1. A cable terminal comprising a conducting socket piece for removably receiving a spark plug electrode, a non-conducting casing having'a cable receiving recess and a wood screw arranged to pass through the "casing, and socket piece into engagement with the cable for holding the cable within the casing in electrical contact with the socket piece.
" 2. A cable terminal comprising a conducting socket piece for removably receiving a spark plug electrode, a non-conductingcasing having'a cable receiving recess and a socket piece receiving recess, 7 a screw ar-- ranged to pass through the casing and socket piece into engagement with the cable and a 'screw'arranged to pass through the casing into engagement with the socket piece for holding it in its recess.
3. A cable terminal comprisin a conducting socket piece having means or frictionally engaging a spark plug electrode, a nonconductin casing having a cable receiving recess an a socket piece recess, a screw arranged to pass from one side of the casing as my invention, 1 have signed my name in through the socket piece into engagement presence of two witnesses, this third oiay of with the cable on the other side of the casing March 1913. t and a screw arranged to pass through the GUSTAVE L. HERZ, 5 easing into engagement with the socket piece Witnesses:
for holding it in its recess. 15. GEORGE BARRY, In testimony, that I claim the foregoing G. S. SUNDGREN.
