To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN M. HANF, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vest Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in an Awning Cord Operating Protector Device, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has relation to a device applicable to a frame-work adjacent to a suspended awning and extending incliningly therefrom and through which the awning operating cord is passed and guided free of the awning either in an operative or inoperative position, thereby avoiding the abrading or tearing of the awning in operations thereof, and in such connection my present invention relates particularly to the constructive arrangement and position of the said device for use.

The nature and scope of my present invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1, is a side elevational view of an awning with a cord-operating protector device of my said invention in application to framework adjacent to the awning, embodying structurally as arranged the essential main features of my said invention. Fig. 2, is a perspective view, on an enlarged scale, of the cord-operating protector device in the preferred structural arrangement I of the same; and Fig. 3, is a plan and cross-sectional View on the line 3, 3, of Fig. 1, of a portion of the said device, showing struc tural arrangement of the hinged part of the same.

Referring to the drawings a, is a framework, having attached thereto an awning b, as shown in an operative relationship in respect to a window.

The cord-operating protector device of my said invention, is made of wire and consists of two members 0 and c hinged at 0 to each other, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The member 0 consists of a wire bent into an inverted \l-shaped support 0 arranged so that in position it will bear against a part of the framework a,'for example, as illustrated in Fig. 1. This member is extended into two flaring arms 0 and a, bent out wardly and upwardly into prongs or spurs c and 0 as arranged so that they. are adapted to engage the said framework a, to hold the device 1n position as also clearly illustrated in Fig. l. The said two parts as so arranged forming the supporting and bearing means of said device 0, with the framework 0;, surrounding or adjacent to the awning depending upon whether the awning is a window or a porch awning. The member 0 of the said device 0, consists of a wire at one end formed into eyes 0 and 0 to engage the hinge connection c consisting of a wire bent into a cross-bearing bar (Z, for the two members 0 and 0 and expanded into a loop (P, to embrace both of said members c and c and then downwardly extended into a guide eye 0Z The extensions on one side of the cross-bearing wire cl, in the bendlngs of the same are coupled to a link (Z as clearly illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. The forward extension of the member 0 is curved respectively upwardly and down wardly into two longitudinal skeleton arms 0 and 0 arranged parallel to each other, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, and at the free extremity of both parts thereof, the same are bent downwardly and inturned rearwardly into a double loop or eye 0, as also clearly illustrated in Fig. 2. The cord 6, is fastened to the lower part of the awning framing f, and which operating cord passes then through the eye 0 and guide-eye (Z and over a suspended pulley g, from the framework a, and downward therefrom onto a keeper 9 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1. The free outer arms of the member 0 carries the cord between them in about the manner as shown in dotted outline in Fig. 2, away from the awning in either the raising or lowering of the same and therefore not to become entangled with the folds or lappings of the awning in the manipulations of the same. The said device by reason of its hinged connection 0 will yield with the awning manipulations, but not to such an extent, as to bring the cord e, in contact with the awning 7).

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I' claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An awning cord-operating protector device, consisting of two movable members, one member provided with a support and with prongs or spurs to engage framework and the other member formed at the free extremity underneath into an eye and the movable connection of said members having a guide-eye and a cord connected with the C'opies of this patent may be obtained for and the hinged connection for s aid members and as a part thereof, formed into a guideeye, and a cord connected with said awning framing and extending through said eyes, substantially as and for the purposes described.
