GRINDING MACHINE.
APPLICATION FILED JuLY28. I914.
The grinding wheel supporting yoke is so connected with the tubular supporting arm that the operator may readily turn said wheel about the axis of the power shaft 18 and as previously described the entire supporting means for the grinding wheel is readily adjustable about the driving shaft 9 being preferably provided With a suitable counterbalancing device in the ordinary manner.. a
The manner of using and advantages of the device will be understood from the drawing in connection with the foregoing description. It will be seenthat the grinding wheel is provided with an independent suction device whereby the dust produced in using the device will be removed with a minimum amount of power; and also that the power shaft 18 and all of the gearing intermediate of the driving shaft 9 and grinding wheel are completely inclosed so that there is no danger of a persons clothing being caught therein or such gearing being affected by dust. The walls of the tubular supporting arm through which the 1. In a grinding device, the combination of a power shaft, a hanger suspended from the power shaft and having a'yoke at its lower end, a counter-shaft mounted in said yoke, gearing connecting the power shaft and counter shaft, a tubular arm having a yoke at each end, one being supported by the countenshaft to swing about the axis thereof, a grinding wheel having its arbor mount ed in the arms of the yoke at the other end of said tubular arm, a bevel gear on the counter-shaft, a similar gear on the arbor of the grinding wheel, a connecting shaft arranged within the tubular arm and having gears directly engaging those on the grinding wheel arbor and counter-shaft, and a suction fan having its casing in communication with the tubular arm, whereby the driving connection between the counter-shaft and grinding wheel is completely inclosed and a continuous rigid suction tube extcnding from the grinding wheel to the fan casing is provided.
2. In a grinding device, the combination of a suitable hanger, a driving shaft journaled in bearings at the lower end of the hanger, a tubular arm having at each end a a tubular head rotatably fitted about the other end of said arm, a grinding wheel having its arbor journaled in bearings on the arms of said second yoke, a bevel gear on the driving shaft, a bevel gear on the grinding wheel arbor, a shaft extending through the tubular arm and provided at its ends with bevel gears meshing with those aforesaid, a hood over the grinding wheel, and a suction fan having its casing in communication with-said tubular arm.
4.\ In a grinding device, the combination of a driving shaft, a grinding wheel, gears connected with said shaft and wheel, respectively, a connecting shaft having at its ends gears that engage directly with both said gears, a'conduit surrounding said shaft throughout its length, a hood over the grinding wheel, a branch pipe connecting the hood with the main conduit, and a suction fan mounted directly on the driving shaft and having its casing in communication with said main conduit.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature n presence of two witnesses.
