FLY-CATCHER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, O'r'ro J. WILKENS, citizen of the United States, resident of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Fly-Catchers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for catching flies and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device capable ofattachment to a screen door to prevent files from entering the house when the screen door is opened. 7
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a door casing and screen door, illustrating the application of my invention thereto, Fig. 2 is a front view of the device removed from the door, Fig. 3 is a side view, partially broken away to show the manner of arranging the fly paper therein, Fig. 1 is a sectional new of one end of the device,
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view.
In the drawing, 2 represents a door frame and 3 a screen door.
4 is a metal base plate adapted to fit the surface of the door near the top thereof and provided with holes 5 for the insertion of screws to secure the plate to the door.
6 is a cup, preferably of metal, hemispherical in form, and united to the plate 4 near one end thereof and near the opposite end of said plate is a band 7.
Fitting within this band and the cup 6 is a cylindrical screen 8 of suitable mesh. This cylinder is open at each end and fits loosely edges being provided with bands 9 and 10, spaced apart to form a longitudinal gap between the edges of the cylinder, said bands beingpreferably connected across said gap by means of clips 11, bent to form loops 12 into which a metallic guide wing 13, mounted on the plate l, is inserted. The band 9 is spaced from the plate 4, forming a narrow gap 14 through which the flies and other in- Specification of Letters Patent.

sects may pass and enter the cylinder, the flies rising fromthe screen of the door and passing through the gap into the cylinder as they fly toward the open door-way.
For the purpose of supporting the poison -fly paper 20 within the cylinder I provide a tube 15 having a spindle 16 at one end to enter a hole 17 in the cup 6 and having a spindle 18 at its opposite end to fit within an opening in the disk or. cap'19 which closes the open outer end of the ring 7. Thistube may be made of metal or any other suitable material, and the fly paper is coiled and mounted thereon with its outer surface exposed to the flies or other insects as they enter the wire mesh cylinder from the gap 14.
Whenever desired, the disk 19 may be removed and the tube withdrawnfrom the cylinder and a fresh paper placed thereon.
In various ways the details of construction herein shown and described may be modified and still be within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. A fly trap comprising a base plate adapted to be mounted on a screen, a perforated cylindrical member mounted on said base plate and having a longitudinal opening leading therein adjacent to said base plate, a tube'arranged within said screen and having supporting spindles therein, and
, a poison fly paper coiled on said tube.
2. The combination, with a screen door stile, of a plate mounted thereon and having a guide wing, a perforated cylinder having its longitudinal edges spaced to form a gap between them provided with closed ends, clips mounted on said edges and having loops formed therein toreceive said wing, a space being provided between one of the longitudinal edges of said screen and said plate to allow the entrance of insects therein, and a poison support mounted within said cylinder.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of January, 1914i.
' OTTO J. WILKENS. Witnesses:
