T 0 612% whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnoncn B. THoMAs, a citizen of the United States of America, and residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and Improved Electric Switch, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to electric switches,
particularly to flush switches of the push button type and the object of my invention is to provide an improved construction therefor having the advantages hereinafter mentioned and shown in the accompanying drawings in which- I Figure 1 is a broken side elevation of a push button switch in which my invention is embodied in one form; Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the base alone, showing the switch mechanism thereon and partially broken away; Fig. 4 is a perspective of one of the combined wire and switch terminals; and Fig. 5 is a perspective of certain details of the switch, detached.
The, present switch mechanism is mounted in aninsulating casing 10 comprising a shallow cup-shapedbase A and an inverted cupshaped cap B of substantially the same contour, and fitting thereon in assembled position so as to completely inclose the switch mechanism. The latter is carried by a frame 11 mounted on the base A and comprises the usual switch blades 12, rocker 13 and push buttons l-l attached to the latter. The combined wire and switch terminals 15 are mounted .at the corners of the base A and project well above the low sides of the latter, thus affording ready access to the terminal wings 16 sothat the latter may be adjusted with relation to the blades 12 after the parts have been assembled upon the base. Adjustments of this character are usually necessary by reason of the fact that irregularities in the porcelain commonly occur duringthe baking of the latter, with the consequence that variations occur in tile positions of the terminals with relation to the switch mechanism carried by the'standard 11. The
adjustment of these terminals with relation to the switch blades is much facilitated by the present construction, since the wings 16 are readily accessible and may be easily bent into alinement with the switch blades 12 by specification of Letters Eatent.

The switch mechanism is on the whole of usual construction. The detent slide however is normally pressed down into position to engage the cross bar 22 of the switch blades by a leaf spring 23. The latter is secured to one upright 11 at 24 and stretches the detent slide 21 mounted and above which it slightly projects. Lugs 25 on the rocker engage beneath shoulders 26 formed in the upper portion of the detent slide. and raise the latter against the pressure of the spring as the rocker nears the completion of its downward stroke in either direction.
The spindle 27 upon which the switch mechanism is mounted may be freely passed through the opposite sides of the standard 11 and is retained in position by the juxtaposed sides ofthe cap which prevent the lateral escape of the spindle from its bearings.
The two-part construction of the insu lating casing is of special value in facilitating the assembly and adjustment of the switch mechanism and terminals upon the base while the assembly of the same with the yoke by means of securing screws, one at each end of the fitting, makes a very simple and rigid construction readily manufactured and put together. The switch parts are completely inclosed and the wire terminals well insulated from each other and protected by surrounding porcelain, while at the same time they are conveniently exposed for wiring'.
I claim as my invention 1. A device of the character described, comprising a two-piece insulating body, a

A device of the character described, having a switch mechanism comprising a pair of uprights, a sliding detent mounted adjacent one of said uprights and extending above the same, together with a plate spring carried by the other of said uprights resting upon the top of said detent, for the purpose described.
9. A device of the character described, having a switch mechanism, comprising an upright, a sliding detent mounted adjacent the same and having its upper end shouldered, a switch spindle, a rocker pivoted above and ec'centrically thereto adjacent the detent and lugs struck therefrom and engaging the shoulders of the detent to lift the latter, substantially as described.
