To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MINARD A. POSSONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Handles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements in stove handles, and pertains particularly to handles adapted to be secured to the oven doors of gas ranges, and having certain details of structure and operation hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1, is a perspective view of a handle embodying my invention applied to a section of a gas range oven door. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the several parts separated. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of'a modified form of handle attached to a section of a gas range oven door.

Referring now to the drawings, 1 repre sents a portion of an oven door having two openings 2 and 3, spaced apart and through which extend the

4 and 5 of the U- shaped member 6, as fully shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This U-shaped member is secured to the oven door by means of screws 7 passing through the front face thereof and entering the screw-threaded openings in the said member. The outer free ends of the

members

4 and 5 have reduced rounded portions 8 and 9, provided with screw-threaded openings 10 and 11. The opening 10 has a right hand screw thread, while the opening 11 has a left hand thread, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described. The reduced portions 8 and 9 of the

members

4 and 5, form the shoulders 12, the object of which will be later described.

The handle proper is formed of an elongated porcelain member 13 having an opening 14 extending entirely therethrough and provided with a longitudinally extending groove 15, communicating with the opening 14. Extending through the opening 14 is a rod 16, having fins 17 adapted to enter the groove 15, and whereby the rod is held within the porcelain handle 13 against rotation, as will be readily understood. The bolt 16 is of a length to extend considerably beyond the porcelain handle 13 and is provided with a right hand threaded portion 18 at one end and a left handed threaded portion 19 at the opposite end, which are adapted to screw into the threaded openings 10 and 11 of the

Fitting on the ends of the porcelain handle portion 13, are the two

ferrules

20 and 21, which are provided with slots 22, extendlng longitudinally thereof, whereby the ferrules may be slightly expanded to fit the porcelain handle 13, to allow for any variation in the diameter of the handle, as will be readily understood. The ferrules are provided with transverse disks 23 intermediate their ends and which are provided with openings 24, through which the rod 16 passes and whereby it is centered within the handle. The ferrules adjacent their outer ends are provided with slots 25, which extend transverse thereof and are of a size equal to the reduced portions 8 and 9 of the

members

4 and 5. The reduced portions 8 and 9 of the

4 and 5 pass into the ferrules through slots 25 and the screw-threaded openings 10 and 11 will come opposite the threaded ends 18 and 19 of the rod 16, and the shoulders abut the outer faces of the ferrules.

In order to insert the reduced portions 8 and 9 of the

members

4 and 5 in the ferrules, it is necessary to spring the arms slightly apart to bring the openings 10 and 11 beyond the screw-threaded portions 18 and 19 of the rod as the distance with the two slots 25 of the ferrules when the porcelain handle 13 is in its normal position is equal to the distance between the

arms

4 and 5. After the parts have thus been inserted with the arms slightly diverging, the porcelain handle 13 is turned to the left and the rod 16 being held therein against rotation by the fins 17, it will be seen that the right and left handed threaded portions 18 and 19 will screw into the right and left handed threaded openings 10 and 11, and the arms 4 and'5 drawn inwardly until the ferrules are clamped tightly upon the handle 13 with the arms parallel and the handle is in its assembled and operative position.

In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the

4 and 5 are not connected, but are separately secured to the section 1 of the oven door by means of

screws

26 and 27.

4 and 5 of the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the

ferrules

20 and 21 and the handle 13 are all arranged precisely like the preferred form and need no further description.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A handle of the character described,

between said spaced members, a rod extending through the member and held against rotation therein, ferrules carried by the member and adapted to receive the ends of the spaced members and said rod having a right and left-hand thread adapted to be screwed into the openings in the spaced members within the ferrules.

3. A handle comprising two spaced members having screw-threaded openings therein, a member between said spaced members, ferrules carried by the ends of the member and having openings to receive the outer ends of the spaced members, a rod extending through the member and held against rotation therein, the said rod beyond the member having a right and left-hand thread adapted to be screwed intothe openings of the spaced members within the ferrule.

4. A handle comprising two spaced members having screw-threaded openings therein, a member between said spaced members, ferrules loosely mounted upon the ends of the member and having openings therein adapted to receive the ends of the spaced members, a rod extending through. the memher and keyed therein against rotation and said rod extending beyond the member and having right and left hand threads on opposite ends adapted to screw into the threaded openings of the spaced members within the ferrule.

5. A handle comprising two spaced members having screw threaded openings there- 1 in, a member between said spaced members, ferrules loosely mounted upon the outer ends of the member and having openings adapted to receive the reduced outer ends of the spaced members,a rod extending through the member and held against rotation therein and extending beyond the ends of the member and having a right and left-hand thread adapted to screw into the openings in the spaced members within the ferrule.

6. A handle comprising two spaced members, a member between the said spaced members, ferrules loosely mounted upon the bers having screw threaded openings at their outer ends, a member between said spaced members, ferrules carried by the member and having transverse disks intermediate their ends and provided with central openings, said ferrules having transverse openings adapted to receive the ends of the spaced members, a rod extending loosely through the member and having a right and left hand threaded portion beyond the member and adapted to screw into the threaded openings in the outer end of the spaced members within the ferrules.

8. A handle comprising two spaced members having reduced outer ends provided with openings having right and left hand threads, a porcelain member between the spaced members and having a longitudinal opening therethrough provided with grooves, ferrules loosely mounted upon the member and having transverse openings adapted to receive the reduced ends of the spaced members, said ferrules having transverse disks intermediate their ends and having central openings therein, a rod loosely passing through the longitudinal opening for the member and having fins adapted to enter the grooves and lock it against rotation within the member, and'having a right and left hand thread beyond the member passing through the disks within the ferrules and screwed within the openings in the reduced ends of the spacedmembers within the ferrules.
