- Be it lnnown that l, llnnnnr Unlr Path, in thefcounty oil Gosh, State cit lllinois, have invented certain new and use, tnl lniprovemcnts in l ooper-ltoclrers tor l lewing-hllachines, cit which the following a descriptibn, reterenc'e beinghad tothe accompanying drawiiig and to the letters and figures-ct reference inarlred thereon.
Thehnvention relates to new and usetul j improvements in looper roclrers tor sewing machines and has tor an object to provide a'looper rocker which 'is capable ot supporting a looper and imparting thereto the lateral or needle avoiding movements,'j and which is also capable of imparting to some I independentelement of the sewing machine, an oscillating movement;
This application is a pending application, Serial 'No. 447 536, tiled hugust'lth, 1908. v
ln the drawings which show byway oi illustration one embodiment of the inventill tion, lligure l is a side view withthe parts removed showing a machine with my looper;
rocker mounted therein. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the looper roclrer showing the operating means therefor, and" said looper rocker connected to the feed bar of the machine. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of the looper rocker detached.
My looper rocker is preferably used in a sewing machine which'i s provided with. an overhanging arm l, which carries a needle bar supporting a needle 2. The needle bar is reciprocated by the usual needle lever 3.
Eaid sewing machine is also prefei'ably pro-.
a body portion which is yoke shaped. Said body portion intermediate its ends carries a hearing or supporting stud; 9 for the looper.
The looper 10 is pivotally supported by said stud,"and is vibrated 'into and out of the .needle loop by a link connection ll with the needle lever 3. The looper rocker at one end i ssstraem, a citizen ot: the llnited @tates, residing at division oil my co ond link with the feed bar.
carries a projecting stud l2 which is mountecl a bracket 13 at the forward end of the mace. Said looper roclrer is attachedto' a shortfshatt it at its other end'wliich-projecte through a bearing carried by a bracket l5.
7 An arna it is mounted on the end "oi the short shalt 1t, and in turn is connected to an eccentric strap .l'i coiiperating with an eccentric on the main shalt. The arm 16 also has a connection to the teed rocker for moving the feed bar hack and it'orth.
As the main shaft rotates the looper rocker will be vibrated laterally throughthe eccentric and its connecting arm 16. looper roclrer is also provided with'a laterally projecting arm 18. Said arm is mounted on the looper roclrer on the oidset part of the body portion, so that's'aid arm will swing bodily with the looper. rocker, as it is oscillated laterally. The arm 18 is connected by means oil a link 19 as herein shown, to the downwardly projecting arm supported by the teed bar. l have also lid The
shown a second arm 20 which is similar to' l the arm 18 and which is connected by a seclt is obvious however, that instead of usingthe twoarms,
one-arm may be employed. The sole pun pose of the second arm is to give greater strength to theoperating parts.
ln the operation of my device; the needle is reciprocated into and out of the material and the looper moved into and. out, oi? the till needle loop by means of the usual needle lever. The looper rocker i s oscillated about its axis in order to give the looper a needle avoiding movement by means of the connection with the eccentric on the main shaft, which moves the feed bar back and forth. As the looper rocker oscillates about its axis, the-laterally projecting arlncarried by the body portion, also will be oscillated and through its link connection with the feed bar,
impart the up and down movements to the feed bar.
Having thus particularly described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. it looper rocker comprisingan-cftset body portion for. supporting the looper, means whereby the looper rocker may be supported, and a laterally proiectingarm f carried by the offset bodyportion, which arm is adapted to impart the lateral movements of the looper rocker to a moving part of the machine.- v
2. A looper rocker comprising 'a yokeshaped body portion, means whereby the looper rocker may be supported, means whereby a looper may be supported on said rocker, and a laterally projecting arm'carried by the body-portion which arm .is
- adapted to impart the lateral movements of looper rocker. may be supported, a bearing intermediate the ends of the rocker on which i a looper may be pivoted, a laterally pro- 'jecting arm carried by the bodyportion of the rocker and adapted 'to impart the lateral movements of the rocker to a moving part of the machine. 4. A looper rocker comprising a yoke- 5 shaped body portion, means whereby said looper rocker may be supported, abearing at right angles to. the looper rocker and the longitudinal axis of said .arm'being eccentric "to the axis of said looper rocker, whereby as said looper rocker is oscillated, said arm will 5. A looper support adapted to oscillate about an axis, a member carried bysaid support and oscillating therewith, said mem her being disposed in a plane substantially at. right angles to the axis of the looper, support and eccentrically located relative thereto, and adapted to be connected to a movable part of the machine.
6. A looper mech anism comprising a looper, alooper I support on which said looper is pivoted, means ,for giving the looper a movement on its pivot into and out-of the needle loop, means for moving the "looper support, whereby said looper is given a,needle-avoiding movement, and devices carriedby the looper support and extending in a direction substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the looper ment thereto:
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of tWo Witnesses.
