T0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WALTER F. STERN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Floor- Icrapers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

rlhis invention relates to a floor-scraper of that class which is employed by carpenters for scraping the surface of floors; and the device covered by this application is an improvement over United States Patent No. 955,444, granted to me on April 19, 1910.

rlhe object of the invention is to provide a machine of this class that shall be cheap, durable and efficient, contain few parts, and be easily operated.

Another object of the invention is to produce a floor-scraper that shall be provided with a double set of blades and blade-hold# ers, which shall both be adjustable with respect to the scraping angle, and that shall be quickly removable for sharpening.

Still another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable weight which may be moved to exert pressure on the blade which is in use, and tighten the remaining part of the machine to facilitate its operation.

A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the handle may be closely adjusted with respect to its angle for the machine.

Wlith these and other objects in view my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will herein after be more fully described and claimed in the annexed specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which like iigures of reference refer to correspond ing parts in all of the views; but it is fully understood that while I have here described my device as shown, that l do not conne myself to the exact design, as slight changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

ln the drawings :-Figure 1, is a side elevation of my machine with both blade-holders in a raised position, and one-half of the machine shown in section, taken on the line IKK-X of Fig. 2. Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the machine.

Referring to the drawings-the machine comprises the side frames 1, of circular form provided with the central boss or hubs 2, and having their ends terminating in the feet 3; and within said hubs 2, is mounted the axle 4, upon the ends of which are secured the traction wheels 5, by the washer 6, and screw 7 said wheels 5, being set under the frames 1, as shown in Fig. 2.

Between the hubs 2, and the axle 4, is mounted the lower end of the handle yoke 8; while the upper end of said yoke 8, is clamped as at 9, to a tubular handle 10.

The feet 8, of the frames 1, are formed with a bearing 11, in which is mounted a shaft 12, upon the ends of which are secured in a detachable manner by the screw 13, the blade-carrying heads 14, by the ears 15, and the blade-holding plate 16, by the ears 17; the blade 18, being held in place by the usual tension screw 19.

Between the side frames 1, are placed the two sector plates 20, whichare spaced apart by the adjusting guide plate 21, to the upper end of which they are secured by the rivets 22; and the ends of said sector plates 20, are curved to conform to the shape of the feet 3, for the side frames 1, and are mounted on the shafts 12.

The yoke 8, of the handle straddles these sector plates 20, and in the upper end of said yoke 8, is mounted a friction shoe 24, to conform to and engage with the upper surface of the sector plates 20, for locking the handle at any desired angle; said shoe 24, is operated in the usual way by a rod 25, eX- tending through the handle 10.

For raising and vlowering the blades, a vertically movable slide 26, is mounted in the guide plate 21, and operated by a screw 27, threaded into said slide 26, and mounted in said guide plate 21.

To the lower end of said slide 26, are pivoted as at 31, the upper ends of the arms 28, which extend downward and are provided with the bifurcated ends 29, which are pivoted by the pins 80, to the rear eX- tension 32, of the blade-carrying head 14, and in this manner the blades may be adjusted by the raising and lowering of the slide 26, thus swinging the heads 14, on the shafts 12.
