TED STATES PATENT FFIQ EDWARD LINCK, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK LYSTER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FIREPROOF METALy WINDOW-FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1915.
Application filed February 27, 1912. Serial N o. 680,367.
T0 all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, EDWARD Linex, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fireproof Metal indow-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to glazing bars constructed preferably of sheet metal to render the same fire-proof and adapted for use in fabricating window sashes, doors, or other constructions in which plates or panes of glass are to be mounted, said windows to be made any width or height.
The construction hereinafter disclosed is particularly adapted where exposed to fire as the frame will not warp nor buckle even though placed under a high degree of heat. The principal metallic members and bars are hollow, affording air spaces, commonly specified as dead air spaces, which do not readily transmit heat between the walls of the dead air spaces.
A further object is to provide a frame constructed with the various members of bars cleated together without the aid of solder, amalgamation or welding.
For a full understanding of the present invention, reference is to be had to the following description and to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a cross section of a bar constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross section of another form of the same.
Throughout the following detail description and on the several figures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.
The present invention is constructed preferably of sheet metal to render the same fireproof, and can be assembled to create frames of various heights and widths to insure large areas of lighting surfaces for factories, mills, etc.
The bars are formed, preferably of sheet metal a plate l of which is bent to form the pane retaining shoulder, or offset portion 2, a back plate or web 3 and the overlap 25.
An auxiliary pane retaining bar 4 is bent to provide a grooved portion 5 which is adapted to receive and retain the edge of the back plate or web 3.
An open bar 6 is provided with a back plate or web 7 and a pane engaging shoulder or offset portion 8.
.An auxiliary pane retaining bar 9 is provided with grooved portions l0 and ll, for the reception of the free edges of open bar 6.
Bars 6 and 9 are held together in any suitable manner, as by the screw 12.
The two composite bars, so formed are adapted to be fitted together with their back plates or webs 3 and 7 in juxtaposition, and to be joined in any suitable manner, as by screw 13 and nut 27.
The form shown in Fig. 2 is similar to that of Fig. l except that the overlap 25 is removed, and the grooved portion 5 embraces both the edge of plate or web 3 and the grooved portion 1l of bar 9.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A pane support comprising a hollow metallic bar having oppositely disposed flat offset portions, a web depending from the ridge of said bar, webs depending from said offset portions and in spaced parallel relation with the aforesaid web, a bar fitted over and having grooves for the reception of the aforesaid first mentioned web and one of the webs depending from the offset portions, and a bar fitted over and having grooves for the reception of the other web depending from the offset portions and one of the groove portions of the last mentioned bar to detachably secure the same in place, said last mentioned bars having offset portions complemental to and coperating with the offset portions of the first mentioned bar to form seats for window panes, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD LINCK.
