Description
H. WALDES. LIMITING ADJUSTABLE PLAGKET CLOSURE.
APPLIUATION FILED NOV.20,1913.
Patented Mar. 30, 1915.
UN [TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HEINRICH WALDES, OF PRAGUE-WRSCHOWITZ, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
LIMITING ADJUSTABLE PLACKET-CLOSURE.
Application filed November 20, 1913.
To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, HEINRICH \VAL'DES, a citizen of the Empire of Austria-Hungary, residing in Prague-lVrschowitz, Bohemia,
Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented heights on the placket and different widths of the placket opening.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a rear View of a ladys skirt, with the placket closed, Fig. 2 is a rear view of the upper portion of the skirt, on a larger scale, with the placket open, Fig. 3 is a plan view on a larger scale, of the placket closure in one position, Fig. 4 is a like view with the placket closure adjusted to shorter length, and Fig. 5 is a view of a modified construction.
Similar reference numerals indicate corresponding parts, in all the figures.
The placket closure comprises a plate 10 .having at its edge suitable openings 11 for stitching the same to the fabric, and having at its central portion a raised knob or member 12, and having at one side a projection or lug 13, and adjacent the same a shorter lug 14. A corresponding plate 20 is also provided, comprising the plate body, provided with openings 26 for stitching the same to the fabric, a lug 15, and a shorter lug 16 adjacent thereto. Said plate 20 is however provided ateits center with a spring-socket 17, instead of a knob, and said socket coiiperates with the knob 12 of the plate 10, so that the two plates constitute together a snap-button. A chain 18 of suitable length extends between the lugs of the plates, and is connected thereto by having its end-links passed through openings 19, 21, respectively, in the lugs. The lugs 14 and 16 are also provided with openings, 22-, 23, respectively, for the end-links of the chain.
For using the device, the plates 10, 20, respectively, are stitched in place to the garment at opposite sides, 24, 25, respectively of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 30, 1915.
Serial No. 802,051.
the placket-opening, and said plates form a snap-button serving in the usual manner of such buttons for the closing of the opening. When the garment is closed, the chain lies between the overlapped portions 24 and 25 of the garment, and is invisible and out of the way. When the placket is opened, however, the plates are separated, and the chain is drawn 'up between the plates, and prevents the plates from being separated beyond the distance permitted by the chain. Thus, when the device is in place at the lower end of the opening, it prevents the separating of the parts 24, 25 at each side of the opening to such an extent as to bring any tearing strain on the fabric at the lower end of the opening. The garment is thus preserved from injury.
The device is rendered adjustable, so that it may be set at different heights on the garment, and may limit the opening of the placket at different points and to different distances, by means of the short lugs 14 and 16. The chain may be attached either to the longer lugs, or to these short lugs, in the one case permitting the opening of the placket to a longer distance than the other. The end-links are for this purpose not closed links, but are capable of being opened by any suitable convenient tool, and when inserted in the proper lug then closed by bending the link together into its former condition. The chain may be connected at one end with the long lug of one plate, and at the other end with the short lug of the other plate. Thus altogether three lengths, namely first between the long lugs, second between a long and a short lug, and third between both short lugs, are afforded, and all desired distances are obtainable. The adjustable chain provides a means of-taking up the device and bringing the sides 24, 25, of the placket together, either before wear, or after the garment by use has become stretched and requires a closer adjustment of the plates.
Instead of the chain a flexible wire cable 30 may be employed, which for adjustment may be disconnected at its ends by any suitable tool, and re-connected with the plates, at other points of the latter, whereby the length of the device is varied and adjusted to the required distance.
The invention is not liinited to the two embodiments shown, but changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the claim.
I claim:
A limiting adjustable placket closure comprising a socket member attached to one edge of the placket and provided with a plurality of radial lugs of different lengths;
a stud member attached to the other edge of the placket and provided with a plurality of radial lugs of different lengths, and a limiting chain connectible at one end with either lug of the socket member andlat the other end with eitherlugof the stud member, whereby a triple limiting adjustment is 15 Witnssesi F. Hose, I G. Lown.
