Description

iis
HARRY R. FBROW, OF PIQUA, OHO.
Application filed May 19, l1914i. Serial No. 839,606.
.T0 all lwhom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY R. -FUnRoW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Piqua, in,` the county of Miami, State of Ohio. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the followinfr to be a full, clear, and exact description oi? the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appei'tains to make and use the same.
r1`liis invention relates to improvements in toys and has for an object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive device that will prove both amusing and attractive and one which may be used and enjoyed by the smallest child.
W'itli the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling within the scope' of the appended claim.
l'n the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved toy, Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof with the spindle shown iii section, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on t'lieline 5%*3 of Fig 1, and Fig. al is a fragmentary sectional view on the line l--l v of Fig. 2.
Referring;V now more particularly to the drawing, the improved toy comprises the spindle 10whicli is spirally threaded as at 11, and has its ends reduced and threaded as at 12 for the purpose to presently appear.
Mounted for rotation on the spindle 10 and adapted to travel tlierealong on the spiral threads 11, is a'disk 13 said disk being preferably stamped 'from a blank of sheet inetal such as tin or the like and being. formed on its periphery with the apertured ears 14. Suitably arranged in the center of the disk and threaded to receive the spiral threads 11 of the spindle is a tap 15 the upper and lower faces of which are rounded as at 16. Taps 17 are also provided on the reduced portions 12 of the spindle and formed with rounded faces 18, these faces presenting a limited bearing surface to the tap 15 and prolonging the rotation of the disk when same is at its limit of movement in either direction on thespindle.
Speciilction o1 Letters Patent.
rateifiteaiaar. so, iai-5.
Passed through the openings in the ears 14 are bolts 19 on which are loosely mounted f or rotation the fans 20, sleeves "21 being likewise mounted on the, bolts and spacing said fans from the disks 13. It will be noted that diametrically opposite pairs of fans are directed oppositely from the disk 13, thereby insuring rotation 4of one of said pairs irrespective of the direction of movement of thc disk. There is further provided at each end o the spindle l0, a stand 21 whereby the toy may be supported upon the Hoor or the like in a substantially vertical position, said stand being internally threaded as at 22 to receive the reduced portion 12 of the spindle.
The operation of the device is obvious, the toy being placed in position as abovedescribed, the disk 13 gravitates along the spindle 10, rapid rotation being imparted to the disk by the spiral threads 11. It is thus apparent that a suliicient current of air will be created to, effect the rotation of one ypair ot' fans 20, the spindle 10, when the disk has reached its limit of movement in one direction, being,r inverted and rotatioiiof the disk and the other pair of fans effected in a similar manner.
Should it be desired. the toy may be rendered more attractive by painting the spindle, disk and t'aiis in various colors, these colors blending during the rotation of the disk and producing an effect that will please and attract the child.
What is claimed is:
ln a toy. the combination with a spirally threaded spindle. ot' a disk rotatably mounted upon said spindle and adapted to traliyel tlierealoug. and lans loosely carried by the disk and adapted for rotation during movenient of said disk ivitli respect to the spindle.
lin testimony whereof, allix my signature, in the presence ot two vvitnesses.
HARRY R. FURROW.
