GLUE FORM AND CLAMP.
Application filed August 4, 1914..
T aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, R. S. OHM, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Glue Forms and Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved glue form and clamp which is adapted to be adjusted to fit work of various sizes and shapes and to hold the work and firmly clamp the same until the glue is dry, the object of the invention being to provide an improved form of this character which may be arranged in any desired shape to conform to that of the work, which may be readily adjusted and which is cheap and simple in construction and adapted to be readily used.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan of an adjustable glue form and clamp constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same arranged to fit curved work. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line aa of Fig. 1, and on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional View on the plane indicated by the line Z)-b of Fig. 1. Fig. 4c is a detail plan of one of the frames and the adjustable work holding arms thereon.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a plurality of frames 1 which hold the work holding arms and which are adjustably connected together to arrange the work holding arms as may be required to fit them against work of any size and shape. A. suitable number of the frames may be employed according to the desired size of the clamp and the size of the work. Each frame 1 is of oblong rectangular form and is here shown as provided with side bars 23, an intermediate bar 4 and ends 5. The bars 3& are each provided with a longitudinal vertical slot 6. On one side of each frame is a longitudinal dove tail groove 7 and on the other side is a dove tail tongue 8 which is adapted to fit in the groove 7 of the next adjacent frame so that the frames are slidably connected together and may be arranged in any desired relation to adapt them to be shaped for the work. Each frame is provided at its corners with supporting legs 9. The frames are secured together in adjusted position by Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
Serial No. 855,026.
Vertical work holding arms 12 are arranged on the frames 1 and are provided with bases 13 which bear on the frames. Each arm is provided with a rounded face 141 on one side to bear against the work and is also provided on opposite sides with spaced lugs 15 each of which has a vertical opening 16. The lugs on the opposing side of the next adjacent arm and pintle pins or rods 17 are inserted in the alining vertical openings 16 of the lugs, thereby pivotally connecting the arms together. Each of the frames 1 is here shown as provided with several of the work holding arms and the holding arms are pivotally connected together throughout the entire series of frames. The base 13 of each arm is provided with a vertical, transverse cross sectionally T-shaped slot 18. Connecting pins 19 are arranged in the said slots and have heads 20 which bear in the upper widened portions of the slot the said pins also passing through and being adjustable in the slot 6 of the frames. Hence the work holding arms may be adjusted on the frames both transversely and longitudinally of the frames and are enabled to be angularly disposed as well as arranged in line with each other and hence the work holding arms may be adjusted on the various frames to fit work of various sizes and shapes. In Fig. 1, for the purposes of illustration the work holding arms are shown arranged to bear against curved work.
To secure the work holding arms in adjusted position on the frames each connecting pin 18 is provided at its lower end with an eccentric locking cam 21 which is pivotally connected thereto as at 22 and has a lever or handle 28. When the work holding arms have been arranged in the desired adjusted position on the frames the locking cams are turned so as to engage the under sides of the frames and thereby securely fasten the work holding arms in place.
The work is held against the curved faces of the arms by means of suitable clamps 24 each of which comprises an inverted U- shaped frame 25 one of the arms of which is provided with threaded openings engaged by screws 26, the inner ends of the screws being swivelly connected to heads 27 which bear against a bar 28, the outer ends of the screws being provided with hand wheels 29 by which they may be readily turned.
Having thus described my invention, I claim I 1. A clamp of the class described comprising a series of frames adjustably connected together for relative longitudinal movement and Work holding arms adjust- .ably mounted on said frames for longitudinal movement,'and also for angular movement,
2. A clamp of the class describedcomprising a series of frames adjustably connected together and work holding arms adjustably mounted on said frames and pivotally connected together.
3. A clamp of the class described comprising a series of frames adjustably connected together and provided with longitudinal slots, Work holding arms having bases bearing and adjustable on the frames both longitudinally and transversely, said bases having transverse slots, and connecting and pivoting pins securing the bases of the work 1 pivoting pins securing the bases of the work I holding arms on the frames and arranged to operate 1n the slots of the bases and frames,
each of said pins being provided with a locking device.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two wltnesses.
