Jmes H Mama I v Que M011 JAMES H. McCALLI-ON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGN'OR FICE.
OF OISTE-IEIIALF TO GRANVILLE S. STANDISH, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BAR TAP-SIGN HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
Application filed May 18, 1912 Serial No. 698,252.
[ all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES H. lVICCAL- to be attached to the dispensing bar or counter directly in front of the faucet from which the beverage bearing that name or mark is to be drawn, and located at a point between the faucet and the front of the bar in plain sight of the customer so that he may know that he is getting the particular kind or brand called for.
It is found in practice that the dispensers of beers, ales, and other beverages in many instances have a tendency to substitute a cheaper and inferiorquality and not give to the customer the brand called for. this way it will be seen that the brewer is not reaping the benefit of the expense of his advertising as his products are not delivered when called for, and the customer is not getting what he is paying for. Therefore my improved method of branding or labeling the faucet will practically insure the customer obtaining what he callsf0r, as this label is so intimately associated with the faucet, that to draw any other kind therefrom than that specified on the label would be misbranding of the goods which may be dealt with aswith the perpetration of a fraud.
WVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists. of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Of the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view, partly in perspective, showing a portion of a dispensing bar having faucets connected by a pipe line to the package below and showing my frame or label carrier fixed to the-bar in close proximity to the faucet and between it and the front of the bar in. plain view of the customer. Fig. 2,- is a view from the front of the bar indicating the appearance of the labels as connected to the various faucets from which the different beverages are drawn. Fig. 3 is an enlarged front view showlng one of my label bearing frames detached. Fig. -l is a sectional side elevation of my improved label carrying frame in section showing the same attached to the rear edge of the dispensing bar.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the face of the dispensing bar, 2 being the front.
edgethereof and 3 the rear edge of the bar.
4, 5 and 6 indicate separate faucets from which the different beverages are drawn, faucet 4 being connected by means of the pipe 7 down through the cooling coil 8 to the keg or package 9. The pipe at this end is connected to the keg through a valve 10, which after the pipe has been attached to the keg is sealed by the seal tag 11 in its open position to prevent the possibility of the pipes being disconnected and again connected to other packages without detection.
In order that the faucets may be properly labeled with the name, trade-mark, or other insignia or origin, I have provided a label carrying frame 12 of handsome and at tractive design having its front face 13 projecting urnvard from the plane of the counter, the same being set on an angle of forty-five degrees receding from the front of the bar. By setting this face on an angle it is-more easily read by the customer standing at the bar. This inclined face has marked or engraved thereon, or is provided with a suitable label or other device carrvin g the name attached thereto. I preferablv, however, have this front face recessed as at 14, and permanently connect either by cement or otherwise, a handsome porcelain plate 18 on which the desired name or character is attractively displayed. This upwardly extending portion is hollow and the rear portion 'of the'frame is provided with downwardly projecting arms 15-45, each having holes 16 through which screws 17, or other suitable means ofv fastening, may be passed to secure or. fix the frame rigidly to the inner edge 3 of the bar directly in front of the faucet.
Instead of having the different faucets through which the various brands of beers are drawn unmarked and the contents entirely unknown to the customer, I have prosubstantially vided a series of labels or markers, one for each tap or faucet which stands plainly and, prominently in the range of the customer to challenge his notice and attention and to enable him to select that particular brand of beverage which he desires and to see to it that his beverage is drawn from the particular faucet indicated by 'the label selected.
This-device cooperating with the seal at the package practically insures the customer obtaining what he orders and reuders it impracticable to attempt fraud in the dispensing of beverages where my im proved device is attached.
Another feature of this invention is its simplicity and inexpensive construction, also its adaptability to be attached without injury to any counter dr bar and at a minimum expense. Its conspicuous location and particularly attractive appearance renders it especially valuable for quickly attracting the attention of the customer, and even sugmeager gesting to him the name of the'beverage he desires to order.
I claim:
The combination with, a support, of a label holder comprising a rear member having securing lugs extending below the upper face of the support at the rear'edge thereof, means securing said lugs to the rear edge of said support, the body of said rear member extending upwardly above the upper rear edge of said support, and a, label holding member secured to the upper edge of said rear member and extending forwardly and downwardly therefrom at a substantial angle and having its lower edge resting upon the upper face of said support.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence 'of two witnesses.
JAMES H. MCCALIJIUN.
