Letters Patent No. 113,156, dated March 28, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN COFFEE-POTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and mm; part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL S. FRENCH, of Montgomery, in the county of Montgomery and $tate of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coffee-Pots; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a strainer for coffeepots, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which iny invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a coffee-pot with my strainer attached; and v Figure 2 is a view of a perforated. piece of tin, which may be used.
- A represents a coflee-pot, made in any of the known and usual ways, and provided on the inside, near the top, with a ledge, a, upon which the strainer rests or is suspended.
The strainer is constructed in the following manner:
B and O are two rings, of suitable size, hinged together, so that they can be-closed or folded one within the other, the inside ring 0 being then held by a catch, 11, as shown. 7
'Aronnd'th e upper edge of the outer ring B is a head or flange, which rests upon the ledge a of the pot. v
A cloth bag, E, is. passed through the outer ring B, and held by the inner ring 0, closing within the bag. In this bag the coffee is placed when ground, and it is then made in the usual manner.
To prevent the bag E from stepping up the inner end of the spout, I attach bars G G to the ring B, which bars extend downward, and are connected hv segments H H.
To the lower one of these segments is attached a foot, I, which bears against the side of the coffee-pot below thespout, and by this means the bag E is prerented from coming in contact with and stopping up. the spout.
In place'of the segments and bars I may use the curved metallic piece J, which is perforated, as shown in fig. 2. I
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the rings B and O, hinged together so as to close or fold onewithin the other, and held by the catch b, for securing the bag E, substautially as herein set forth.
2.'In combination with the rings B G, the bars G G, segments H H, and foot I, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the rings B 0, bag E, and I the perforated metallic piece J, substantially as and for the purposes herein set fort In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix. my signature in presence of two witnesses.
