PLOW-DRAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 9, 1915.
Application filed July 30, 1914. Serial No. 854,103.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE A. SANFORD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tipton county, State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plow-Drags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments for plows, and more particularly to a device adapted to be secured to the point of a plow for the purpose of transporting same from 7 place to place and at the same time hold the point of the plow out of contact with the ground thus preventing the plow from furrowing during its transportation.
Referring to the drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective view of the attachment in position on the point of a plow; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my drag, and Fig. 3 is a modified form of the invention.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the base or body of the device which tapers as at 22, and terminates in a comparatively smaller rounded front extremity 3. Central of the body, is provided a longitudinally extending slot 4:, and at the rear extremity of said slot is a transverse slot 5, the front and rear walls of which are tapered as at 6 and 7 respectively. Secured by suitable bolts 8 on each side of the longitudinal slot 4 is a diamond-shaped block 9, said blocks having one of their side faces or edges parallel with the side walls of the longitudinal slot. These blocks 9 are set back slightly from the slot to provide a suitable space therebetween.
Secured to the front extremity of the body portion of the device by means of 'an eye 10 is a chain or other suitable attaching means 11, the free extremity of which is provided with a hook or other suitable securing means 12, while at the rear extremity the body portion is provided with a suitable Wear plate 20.
body portion is provided only with a central longitudinal slot 15. On opposite sides of the longitudinal slot 15 and converging toward the tapered extremity of the body portion are strips 16, these strips being secured to the body portion by means of bolts or the like 17.
In use the point of a plow is inserted between the blocks or strips, and wedged therein. If the plow be of the shovel type the shovel is passed through the transverse slot 5, or if the plow is provided with a disk colter, the colter is received in the longitudinal slot. After this has been done, the chain at the front extremity of the body portion is fastened to any desired point of the plow, thus elevating the front extremity of the body portion. It will be seen that as the plow is dragged along the ground, its point will not contact therewith, the same being held in elevated position by the inclination of the body portion of the device.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising a body portion provided with a GEO. A. SANFORD.
