To all wkom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD Y. MooRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hoisting Mechanism, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
In the employment of portable hoists it frequently happens that it is desired to use a hoist repeatedly at definite points, while in the meantime it is desirable to have it out of the way or in use at some other point.
The object of this invention is to provide a portable hoist with simple supporting means so arranged that the hoist may be rolled along a trackway to its point of use and there supported for use without the necessity of employing the weight or head room incident to a trolley sufficient to support the load. To this end I provide a trolley device connected with a hoist frame and strong enough to support the weight of the hoist without the load, and I provide means operable at the desired points of use to takev the weight off the transporting Wheels and suspend the hoist directly from the trackway.
My invention accordingly comprisesV a hoist provided with a transporting structure sufficient to support the weight of the hoist, and an independent supporting device adapted to carry both the weight of the hoist and the weight of the load.
My invention includes also more particularly the mechanism illustrated in the drawings hereof for carrying out such operation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an end view of a hoist provided with the supporting mechanism of this invention, the trackway being shown 1n section; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of such hoist and trackway.
The hoist proper shown in the drawings is substantially that shown, described and claimed in my prior Patent No. 1,035,030, but it is to be understood that such embodiment is chosen as illustrative, and any suitable hoist may be employed and equipped with my invention.
As shown, 10 represents the hoist frame which is in the form of a casing containing pocket Wheels and gearing (not` shown) driven by suitable hand wheels 11. The lift chain 12 is shown as depending from the pocket Wheels within the frame around sheaves 14 in the block 15 which 'carries the shown as separated by distance sleeves 24.

Secured toV the hoist frame and rising therefrom on opposite' sides, are brackets 80, each of which carries a pair of wheels 31 riding on the fi'anges 22. This serves` to transport the hoist from'place to place afterv the manner of a trolley. The structure, however, is not of sufficient dimensions to support the load. Secured centrally to the hoist frame is a plate 35 which is shown as set into the space usually occupied byl the hook and extending on each side thereof and firmly secured by bolts 86. 35 and Wedgeare of such dimensions as to support the entire load which the hoist may lift. Theopenings28 have their lower ends just above the upper edges of the angle flanges 22 so' that an effective support is provided for the wedge.
It will be noticed that my construction brings the hoist frame close to the under side of the trackway, doing away Vwith any waste of head room. The supporting attachments for the hoist are simple and easily secured to the hoist frame and enable it to be eifectively transported to and from` its point of use.
Having thus described my invention, What T claim is:
1. The combination, With a trackWay and a hoist suspended therefrom, of means for supporting the Weight of the hoist Without supporting the Weight of the load Whereby the hoist may be transported along the trackway, and independent means for supporting the hoist and load.
2. rThe combination of a flanged track- Way, a depending hoist provided With Wheels adapted to roll on said trackWay, and means to support the hoist from the trackWay independently of the Wheels.
3. The combination, With a trackWay, of a hoist provided With Wheels riding on the trackway, a member rising from the hoist, and means for looking said member to the trackWay to support the Weight of the load.
et. The combination of a trackWay, a hoist provided With Wheels adapted to travel on the traclrWay, a member rising from the hoist, and a Wedge adapted to engage said member and the traclnvay and thereby support the hoist from the trackWay independently of the Wheels.
5. The combination of a flanged track- Way having a doWnWard opening, a hoist having Wheels riding on the fianges and provided With a member extending up- Wardly into said opening, and means to lock said member to the traclrWay.
6. The combination of a flanged trackWay having a doWnWard opening, a hoist having Wheels riding on the fianges and provided With a member extending upWardly into said opening, and a bar passed crossWise through registering openings in the track- Way and said member.
7. The combination of a trackWay having upright plates spaced apart and outstanding fianges, a hoist having Wheels riding on said fianges, a member secured to the hoist frame and extending upWardly between the plates, there being an opening through said member and openings'through the plates of the trackWay, and a Wedge adapted to occupy said openings.
8. The combination, With a hoist frame, of a pair of standards rising therefrom, Wheels carried by said standards, an intermediate member secured to the hoist frame and rising between the Wheels of the tWo standards, and a trackWay adapted to support said Wheels, and means to support said member from the trackWay independently of the Wheels.
9. The combination of a traclrWay having a pair of Vertical plates spaced apart and each provided With an outstanding fiange adj acent to its lower edge, registering openings through said plates, a hoist having a frame beloW said traokway, standards secured to the hoist frame and rising outside of and above the flanges, Wheels on the inner sides of the standards riding on said fianges, a plate secured centrally to the hoist frame and rising between the plates of the track- Way and provided With an opening adapted to register With the opening of the track- Way, and a Wedge extending transversely through such registering openings to support the Weight independently of said Wheels.
10. The combination, With a supporting trackWay of a depending hoist having Wheels adapted to ride on the trackway Whereby the hoist may be transported along the trackWay, and means for supporting the hoist from the trackvvay structure independently of the Wheels.
11. The combination of an elevated track- Way comprising fianges and supporting means therefor, and a depending hoist having Wheels riding on the trackWay and provided With means Whereby it may be supported directly from the supporting means for the flanges independently of the Wheels.
12. The combination, With an elevated supporting structure having a trackWay, of a depending hoist having Wheels adapted to ride on the trackWay, a support for the hoist additional to the Wheels extending upWardly from the hoist, and means for engaging said support to the trackWay structure.
. 13. The combination, With a trackWay structure having upright plates spaced apart and outstanding fianges, of a hoist having Wheels riding on said fianges, a member secured to the hoist and extending upWardly between the plates, and means for seeuring said member to the trackWay structure.
li. The combination, With a trackWay structure having a pair of Vertical plates spaced apart and each having secured to it near its loWer edge an angle bar providing an outstanding flange, registering openings through the plates immediately above the Vertical portions of the angle bars, a hoist frame beloW the trackWay, Wheels connected With the frame and adapted to ride on the outstanding flanges, a member secured to the hoist frame and rising between the plates, and a cross bar adapted to extend through the registering openings in the plates and engage and support said member.
