Be it known that WILLIAM l). Fon` SYTH, a citizen of the United States, residing .at Youngstown, inthe county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have' invented new and useful lmprovements in Removable Assembled Draft-Gears, of which the following is a specification.
My inven'i'cn relates to improvements in draft gears for use on railway cars.
The principal objects of my invention are, among other things, to provide a draft gear `whoseparts can'be readily assembled,
and when assembled, separated from oneanother without a' complete distribution of the several .devices entering into any particular partJ of it, and at the saine tirnebe 'applied .to 'cars when the parts thereof are assembled with relation to one another; also to provide a draft gear wherein the parts that are subject to tension when said gears are in operation on the cars, are constructed of rolled metal sections, and the parts that are subject to compression under like circumstances are .constructed of cast metal.

follower plates and springs are mounted in ipe 16 and are placed in the compartments of the vblock or spring case, where they ,are Centered by putting the. ,bar or pip" 16 through the holes in the' rear end o block and its several abutments ano the socket at its front end. When the yoi're is composed of a single rolled metal piece, its front ends are sprung suiiiciently to permit them to pass between the flanges of the block, so that the intermediate shoulders of the yoke abut the front end of the block. The fianges of the block prevent the yoke from slipping off the block.l The collar is passed over the rear end of the draw bar. The rear end of the draw bar is then placed between the front end of the block and the terminal shoulders of the yoke. Then the collar is passed back over the ends of the yoke and fastened in place by a pin passing through the perforation of the draw bar. The assembled draft gear is now a unit which can be `liandled, transported, tafen,

Where the yoke is constructed as shown in Fig. 3, the two yoke side bars are assembled in a manner that is obvious from their shape and construction. When the two piece yoke bar is thus assembled' and used, the assembling of the rest of draft gear is substantially the same as in the case where the yoke is constructed as shown in Figs. l gud 2.

What li claim as my invention is:
1. A draft gear comprising a spring case having compartments therein,a draw bar yoke mounted' on saidspring case and having shoulders abutting the front end of said spring case, the end portions of said yoke extending beyondl -the front endof said spring case, the ends of said end portions of said yoke being inturned'toward each other, a draw bar mounted'between said 'end portions and having' shoulders engaging said inturned ends, said draw barbeing in contact with the front end of said 'spring case, and detachable means for holding said yoke in place on said draw'bar. y
2. A draft gear comprisin yoke having the ends thereof inturned toward each other, a spring case removably mounted in said yoke2 a draw bar mounted between the end portions of said yoke and a draw barv Liedes@ end portions of said yoke and retaining said yoke in position on said draw bar, and a removable pin passing through said draw bar and holding'said collar in place.
3. lin a dra-ft gear, a draw bar yoke, a draw bar removably secured to said yoke, and la spring case removably mounted in said yoke and bearing against said draw bar and said yoke, said spring case havingtwo flanges projecting from each of two opposite longitudinal faces thereof, said yoke lying between said flanges. y v
4. lin a draft gear, a draw bar yoke, a draw bar removably secured to the ends of said yoke, a spring case removably `mounted within said yoke and bearing against said draw bar, said spring case having compartments therein, a pair of follower plates in .each of said compartments, a spring between each pair of said follower plates, and a removable. rod extending longitudinally of said spring case through said follower plates and said springs.
