3e it known that I, HENRY S. Gnuiioxn, 12. a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of Xew Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Elevators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanvin; drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in elevators and pa ticularly to improvements in elevators of the portable type; and an object of this invention is to provide an elevator of this type with means for increasing the stability thereof.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of this invention and the best mode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a side elevation of so much of a portable elevator as is necessary to'illustrate this invention: Fig. 2 is a section on the line AA of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 and shows my invention applied to a portable elevator of the nonrotatable type.
The truck-bed or carriage-body a is provided at its rear end with a pair of truckwheels 6 and at its front end with a hanger or bracket c in which the steering-wheel d is pivotally mounted somewhat after the manner of a caster-wheel. Fivotally mounted upon the truck-bed (a is the base 0 of the elevator frame. The load-carrying platform j is controlled by means of a windlass cable is which is wound upon a drum carried by the Windlass shaft m and driven by a spur-gear n. The parts hereinbefore referred to are common to this type of eleva tor, one form of which is described in the patent granted Thomas James McCarthy. Ma as, 1907, No. 854,961.

I claim:
1. The combination of a truck; a vertically-disposed guide-frame arranged thereon; load-carrying platform movably mounted in said frame and proiecting laterally therefrom; mechanism for controlling the position of said platform; and a pair of levers which are fulcr'umed on said truck adjacent to said guide-frame and thelower ends of which are arranged to be forced afiainst the floor and thereby to raise the front part of the truck therefrom, whereby the weight resting upon the truck is sup-- ported upon the lower ends of said levers and the rear wheels of the truck, and there is given said truck four points of support two of which are fixed.
2. The combination of a truck; a vertically-disposed guide-frame arranged thereon; a load-carrying platform movably mounted in said frame and proiecting laterally therefrom; mechanism for control ling the position of said platform; a pair of le ers which are fulcrumed on said truck adiacent to said guideframe and the lower ends of which are arranged to be forced against the floor and thereby to raise the front part of the truck therefrom, whereby the weight resting upon the truck is supported upon the lower ends of said levers and the ITJII wheels of the truck, and there is given said truck four points of support two of which are fixed; and a yoke device ranged thereon; a load-carrying platform movably mounted in said. frame and projecting laterally therefrom; mechanism for controlling the position of said platform; and a :pair of truck-raising members fulcrumed on said truck, one on each side of said steering-wheel, and arranged to be forced against the floor and thereby to raise the front part of the truck therefrom, Whereby the Weight resting, upon the truck is supported upon the lower ends of said members and the two Wheels other than the steering Wheel, and there is given said truck four points of support two of which are fixed.
