A; L. BALDWIN. SPAOING OLIP FOR DOUBLE PANE WINDOWS.
APPLICATION FILED IEB'. 5,1914.

- SPAGIN'G-CLIP FOR DOUBLE-BANE WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ar. e, iota.
. Application filed February 5, 1914. Serial No. 816,703.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. BALDWIN," a citizen of the United-States of America,
residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spacing-Glips for Double-Pane Windows, \of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to windows of-that type provided with double glazing and in which parallel window panes are secured to the sash to form an air space therebetween.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a simple device for quickly positioning and securing the panes in properly spaced relation, the construction being parmetallic window sashes.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is asection through one of the sash bars and double panes, showing my improvement ap lied thereto; Fig. 2 is a perspective view 0 the clip; and Figs. 3 and 4 are views similar to Figs. 1 and 2 showing a modified construction. a
A is one of thesash bars providedwith the usual ledge or shoulder B forming the bearing for the window pane and the web portion C ex'tendin at right angles thereto. .D is a clip pre erably formed of sheet metal and PI'OVldGd) with a spacing portion E, a hook portion F at one side thereof and a tongue ortion G at the op osite side thereof. s specifically shown, t e portion E is formed by a U-shaped bend of the sheet 7 metal, the portion F by a reversely.-bent U and the portion G by a'fiat projection in the ably notched or otherwise weakened, as indicatedat H, so as to facilitate forming an angle bend therein.
In use, the glass pane I, which lies adjacent to the shoulder B, is engaged with the hooked portions F ofa plurality of the clips D suitably'spaced about the pane, and the latter is then placed in the window sash and secured in position by any suitable means. A second pane J is then placedin the sash against the spacing portion E, after which the tongue G is bent inward to form a hook, as indicated at K, Fig. 1,. which secures the two panes in fixed relation to each other. The whole is thensecured in position by any suitable construction of clip (not shown).
7 In the modified construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the-bendable tongue G is dispensed with and the clip is formed merely with the reversely-bent U-shaped portions E and F. With this construction the portion E forms a spacer which is secured by.
the hook-portion F to the first pane and the second pane is secured in position by any suitable means (not shown).
What I claim as myinvention is,
A double glazing clip for, window sashes,
comprising asheet' metal blank bent to form a spaclng portion of U-shaped cross section,
Jest-mentioned U-portion and bendable to form a hook for the second ane.
In testimon whereof I a my signature in presence 0 two witnesses. I
' ARTHUR L. BALDWIN.
