Fon- TEscUE, a'. subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of llennsyl-f VVania, have invented a. new and useful linprovement in Electric-'Current rl'rransformers, of which the following is a specification,

My invention relates to transformers and particularly to the windings and insulation of such transformers as are adapted for very high-voltage service.
The object of my invention is to provide a winding which shall require a very small amount of insulation, relative to the vvoltage of the transformer, with a view to reducing the space occupied by 'the insulation and thev manufacturing cost of the transformer.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a partially sectional view of a transformer having its winding divided into four groups of coils which are distributed on the four legs of a substantially square or rectangular core member. Fig. 2 is a view, corresponding to Fig. 1, of a modified structure', in which the high-potential winding is so dis'- tributed and the lengths of the coils are so proportioned as to occupy practically the entire space Within the'core member.` Q
Referring to the drawings, the structure here shown comprises a. substantially .square or rectangular'core memberl, provided with a plurality of similar groups 2, 3, 4 and 5, of low-voltage coils, and groups 6, 7 .8 and 9 of relatively high voltage coils whichsurround the respective legs 10, 11, 12 and 13 ofthe corememb'er and are separated therefrom by insulating Vsleeves 14, the high and v low-voltage groups being separated fromeach other by insulating sleevesfl.
