POCKET COMPANION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 9, 1915.
Application filed May 22, 1914. Serial No. 840,282.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY H. WOHL- WEND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocket Companions, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a device which can be handily carried in the pocket and which contemplates a drinking cup and various other articles and members constituting important parts of a traveling outfit and which are carried in small bulk so as to take up very little room.
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a receptacle in the 6 nature of a folding drinking cup which is provided with a suitable cover constituting a closure for a second receptacle carrying suitable auxiliary containers whereby the entire device by the relative association of the parts mentioned is retained in a small and compact form which can be easily carried in the pocket.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through the companion showing the relative arrangement of the parts; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the receptacle constituting the drinking cup when the same is in open position and removed from the other members; Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a second inner receptacle, showing the manner of arranging the plurality of containers therein; Fig. 5 is a plan view of a comb which can be conveniently carried and form a part of the structure recited.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a receptacle 10 of a folding nature which is constructed similarly to the ordinary drinking cupsnow generally used, the said receptacle, however, including a base or bottom 11 having an integral annular spring-like locking member 12 formed with the base or bottom of the receptacle and adapted for locking engagement with a cover 13, thus forming a chamber 1 1. The cover 13 preferably has a mirror or some other suitable similar article 15 secured in its upper side and arranged on top of the chamber 14-. The receptacle 10 is adapted to receive a second receptacle 16 having its bottom abutting against the bottom of the first receptacle l0 and lying within the folded parts of the receptacle 10. The second receptacle includes a projecting annular flange 17 which engages the cover 13 and holds the second receptacle against movement relatively to the cover on the receptacle 10, while at the same time it provides a space 18 in which suitable articles can be placed, such as a comb 19. Contained in the second receptacle 16 are a plurality of similar containers 20 which are adapted to contain powder or the like and which are removably disposed in the second receptacle, as shown.
In assembling the various structures mentioned the receptacle 10 is first folded and the second receptacle 16 is then placed in the first receptacle 10 as shown, with the annular flange 17 of the second receptacle projecting over and across the upper edges of the foldable parts of the first receptacle and lying exteriorly' of the first receptacle to constitute an inner cover therefor. It will be understood that the containers 20 having been previously arranged in the second receptacle, the comb 19 or other suitable articles are now placed upon the second receptacle to lie upon the annular flange 17 thereof. The outer cover 13 is now applied to the receptacle 10 to engage the locking member 12 thereof, thus locking the cover to the receptacle 10 and holding the second receptacle relatively to the cover and first receptacle.
From the foregoing description it will be a parent that the various receptacles and covers described cooperate whereby they can be held together when not in use to form .a compact pocket companion which will take up very little room in the pocket and which can be easily disassembled and as readily assembled in the manner mentioned.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In combination with a foldable receptacle and a cover therefor, a second receptacle removably disposed in the first receptacle when the same is folded, an annular flange on the second receptacle and lying exteriorly of the folded first receptacle to engage the cover thereof, and a locking member forming a part of the first receptacle and engaged by; the cover whereby to hold the cover and first receptacle against relative movement and secure the second receptacle between the cover and first receptacle.
2. In combination With a plurality of receptacles, one disposed Within the other, a cover, a flange formed With one of the receptacles and engaging the cover, and a flange formed With the other receptacle and engaged by the cover whereby to hold the tWo receptacles relatively rigid and secure the cover With respect to the said receptacles.
3. In combination with a foldable receptacle, an exterior annular locking member thereon, a second receptacle disposed W1thin the foldable receptacle and having portions thereof projecting across the folded 2o portions of the folded receptacle, and a cover common to the foldable receptacle and the secondv receptacle, With the said cover engaging the exterior annular locking member whereby the cover Will be held in posi tion to inclose thereceptacle.
In testimonycwhereof I aiiix my signature in presence of tWo WitI1QSS8S. V
